Eh, I don't think he's good enough to be a specialist opener. Mind you, given the paucity of opening options, I'm sure he'll get another try at some stage.

Yea if only New Zealand could have had a 3rd crack at batting.

Shame anyway, would have been interesting to see South Africa chase a smallish total and lose Smith early.

Give Brodie a go! The test team's been cruelly short of Wellington College old boys ever since Franklin blew out his knee in 2007.

I can see us moving back to four bowlers next test if they're desperate for Brownlie.

Could be a worry on a bad Gillespie day.

I'm off to yell at my assignment some more. I expect to return to a glorious NZ victory.

Righto, get Martin out of the attack & bring Gillespie on...can't afford Martin's loosener every over with only 100 to play with, he's not getting any swing.

Surely Nicol must go for the next test. Who comes in? TMac's stint back in domestic cricket hasn't done him good, he's been averaging 14 this year. Even the best of the domestic openers (guys like Raval, Brodie, How etc.) are averaging high 30's/low 40's. Do we give one of them a chance, or bump McCullum up to open, someone up to number 3 and bring in a middle order player?

Look at those opening averages. Bring back Tim Mac!
