ICC Combined Associate and Affiliate (AM) XI v England. January 7-9, 2012

Yeah, without having seen a ball of the coverage, my guess was it's one of those decks where the new cherry is crucial and, once the shine's off, it'll be hard yakka for the seamers.

Trott and Pietersen have both had trundles already I note, so Strauss seems determined to use his main bowlers sparingly.

He put on a good partnership, so he did a job, but that really was a horrible little innings from Haq. Misses, edges and wide slashes. Batted much like a jammy tailender and it's hard to think Dockerell couldn't have done much worse than the spinners that were picked.

Decent start to the tour by the bowlers. We wait to see how good it is until we bat and find out if it a dreadful pitch or good bowling.
Anderson, Broad, Swann vs some players of questionable FC standard.

That's not going to end well. They've not done bad to get near 200 tbh.

What's up with Anderson. He hasn't been very good.

Broad on the other hand has been amazing. Pakistan need to be vary of him.

Might be a bit out of rhythm. Wouldn't be too concerned.

Broad's a real likelihood to tear up on these sort of decks. I don't know how he does it, he just does.

This is Anderson's MO. Anderson isn't really a destroyer anymore, he's the closest thing this England attack has to a McGrath who'll just keep it in that awkward channel, not go for many runs and constantly threaten the edge. For some reason no-one really seems to have noticed this at all.

Nah DWTA. Anderson is a destroyer, he's still just as capable of producing ball-on-a-string spells with ridiculous deliveries when the conditions suit.

He just has other tricks now. Broad is more the McGrath type simply because he's 6-foot-something.

Except Anderson takes his wickets slower than every other English quick.

What he has developed is very good accuracy. Haven't checked 2011's figures yet, but no quick in 2010 went for less rpo than Anderson.

He also has innings figures of 6/17 in 2010. If that's not destroying, I don't know what is. He might do it less often, but he is still England's premiere wrecking ball.

In 2011, Broad has Anderson beat on RPO.

Lol @ Rankin smacking Swann around. He must've improved his batting, used to be a total rabbit.

Looks like batting gets very easy as the day goes on, even more than usual.

His 6/17 against Pakistan was a bit of a one-off that merely confirmed what everyone "knew" about Anderson. In the Flower era, Broad has Anderson's SR covered in England - despite Anderson having 5 Michelles to Broad's 3.

Cricinfo's coverage of this appears to have **** itself. Been stuck on 181-8 for ages.
