Is this the Golden Age for fast bowling?

Tomas

Cricket Spectator
Looks like we are at the dawn of a new age for fast bowling, we some young guns from SA, Australia, England, Pakistan, India ripping it up.

Australia have about 6 fast bowlers who can run through batting line ups.

SA has found some young guns as well.

England is finding good young speed merchants.

India as well all of a sudden has found some quality young quick's.

This is what happens when pitches start offering something for the quick's, it's great too see almost all nations producing fast bowlers, I think we are at the dawn of a new age of bowling. After decades of flat tracks, it's great to see the bowlers starting to come into their own.

Lets see how it pans out. And the 90s were the golden age of fast bowling. And batting averages have only been high in the 00s. They were near the lowest they've ever been in the 90s so it's only been roughly 10 years total that the "cricketing pendulum" was in the batsmans corner. Probably more due to the retiring of the great bowlers of the 90s more than anything.

Im optimistic though. Should be really fun to see bowlers ripping **** up again.

Tomas, what effect do you think the flat wickets in India will have on their fast bowlers?

It's the weather. End of a ten year drought in the hemisphere which counts (ours) makes a big difference to conditions.

All this does is show what a ****ing legend McGrath is. Bowling so well in so lifeless an era.

Yeah he was handy even on flat lifeless Indian pitches wasn't he?

McGrath was an absolute gun. Absolutely hate it when Ian Chappell puts him down.

I think there would sooner be a Shane Warne than a McGrath

I would not call it "the golden age" of fast bowling. There are some fairly useful quickies running around at present in all countries but if you're going to call for a "golden age" you could not go past the eighties

Not sure we really have 6 Australian bowlers who can rip through an attack. Not unless we apply the MJ 'leap year' principle.

Yeah, AWTA.

Obviously it's hard to judge what it'll be like in five years or so, but at the moment, there's pretty much only one bowler who could be considered anywhere near ATG status. There's far, far more than that in most other eras, although this could obviously change soonish.

80s hadlee, Imran, Wasim, Marshall, Holding, Lillee, Garner, Kapil

90s Wasim Waqar Ambrose Walsh Donald Pollock McGrath

Might be missing a few in both eras
