Bowes to lead SA U19 World Cup squad

Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Friday announced the 15-strong national under 19 squad, lead by Chad Bowes, which will travel to Australia for the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup in August.

After almost two years of preparation and months of gruelling training at the High Performance Centre (HPC) in Pretoria, the selectors made the final decision on which 15 young men will carry the nation's hopes of lifting an ICC trophy.

The team selected is one of the most experienced South African sides to compete in the World Cup, having toured in England and Zimbabwe as well as hosting tours against both Pakistan and Zimbabwe in preparation for the ultimate youth cricket competition in the world.

The CSA National Academy, based at the HPC, was used as the preparation ground for 23 hopefuls who would work towards selection for the World Cup. They were headed up by the CSA Coaching Department under the leadership of Coaching Manager, Anton Ferreira and national team coach, Ray Jennings.

CSA Youth Cricket Manager Niels Momberg is looking forward to seeing what this side can do.

"It has been an exhaustive few months with every player giving a hundred per cent at all times with the hopes to represent his country. Congratulations to everyone who was selected, we look forward to seeing you play your hearts out in this crucial competition. To those players who did not make it, never give up, to get into the top 23 squad of the most promising players in the country is a massive achievement and we will not forget you or the contribution you have made so far. We wish you all the best for your future and look forward to seeing what the future holds for you."

CSA will host a capping ceremony for the World Cup squad in the last week of July and all media can look forward to an invitation.
