Most inexperienced Australian team since...?

Jono

Virat Kohli (c)
If this is the lineup for Australia come Boxing Day, can anyone state when Australia have put out such an inexperienced team (in terms of test matches played).

Warner - 2 tests
Cowan - 0 tests
Marsh - 3 tests
Ponting - 158 tests
Clarke - 76 tests
Hussey - 66 tests
Haddin - 39 tests
Siddle - 27 tests
Pattinson - 2 tests
Starc - 2 tests
Lyon - 7 tests

TOTAL: 382 tests
AVERAGE: roughly 35 tests per player.

If Hilf plays instead of Starc that's 17 tests instead of 2, which would make:

TOTAL: 397 tests
AVERAGE: roughly 36 tests per player

We'd have to be going back to the 80s wouldn't we? Perhaps earlier?

Ponting changes everything. Massive outlier.

Perhaps I'll say, the Boxing day team should be the most inexperienced Australian team in decades. Since Ponting should have been dropped

First Test in South Africa in 2009 would be in with a shout as well.

Hughes - debut
Katich - 30 odd?
Ponting - 130 odd?
Hussey - 50 odd?
Clarke - 50 odd?
North - debut
Haddin - off the top of my head about 12
Macdonald - 1
Johnson - 18
Siddle - 4 IIRC
Hilf - debut

Decades being since the new year.

I'm pretty sure the Australian line up in this game had less test match experience.
True.

More recently, their team for the first test in 1978/79 would have been massively inexperienced. Or perhaps one of the series they played earlier in 1978.

In less abnormal circumstances, maybe a team from around 1972 when they were starting to rebuild under Ian Chappell.
