If you take the award to mean how I take it, that is as the best sportsman of the year, rather than anything to do with personality, then Cavendish certainly deserved to win it. Would have Mo Farah and Cook marginally behind.

Cavendish does have a personality, by the way. Hyper-competitive arsehole pretty much covers it. Staggered he beat Clarke, who is, by every account, a roaringly good bloke.

Cav's lass is a sort, undoubtedly. In fact therein lies a tale. He dumped his pre-fame fiancée for her, after having dedicated his autobiography to the former. His book must be one of the very few where the dedication changed between the hardback and paperback versions. Classy guy.
