The Hand-Based XIs Thread

Can't think of a better title. The hand-based Country/All-time/Current XI thread. Go mad.

Will do a left-hand bat(:naughty:) AT XI

Lawry
Hayden
Lara
Pollock
Border
Sobers
Gilchrist
Hadlee
Davidson
Akram
Ambrose

About half a dozen middle-order bats atleast I'd have ahead of either opener from a batting POV, independently.

Team lacks a quality spinner but Sobers somewhat makes up for it.

Good list. I have one reservation because both Hadlee and Ambrose were right-handed in their primary skill. :)

An attempt at a list of true southpaws:

Bill Lawry
Gary Kirsten
Graeme Pollock
Neil Harvey
Gary Sobers
Allan Border (capt.)
Adam Gilchrist (wk.)
Alan Davidson
Wasim Akram
Derek Underwood
Bruce Reid

Picking Ambrose as a specialist batsman seems like an odd decision. :p

Paddles is an equal cheat so let's sub in Trevor Goddard as our seaming allrounder, which has the added bonus of getting to leave out Hayden. Replace Ambrose with big Bill Johnson as the change bowler, and thanks to Goddard I've now room for a left-arm spinner, so I'll take Hedley Verity.

Lawry
Goddard
Lara
Pollock
Border
Sobers
Gilchrist
Davidson
Akram
Verity
Johnson

Picking Ambrose as a specialist batsman an odd decision.

I'd pick the same lineup, but with one of Verity or Underwood instead of Ambrose. I'd take Saeed Anwar ahead of Hayden, but only because I want to avoid picking Hayden.
I wanted to avoid picking Hayden so much that I opened with Sanga.

Gilly wasn't strictly a true southpaw, he threw right handed.

Deadly, on the other hand, was, but perversely batted as God intended.

I wonder what hand I'd bat if I ever took up cricket again. Would probably try and be a switch-hitter.

Haha, fair cop guys. Mentioned it's a left-hand bat XI, in my defense but it's a rather flimsy one, I'll admit. Wanted to veer away from subjectivity, is all. :p

Picking Hayden was a deeply painful experience for me too itbt.

Will try a currently playing prime-skill lefty XI(not on current form alone)

Graeme Smith
Alastair Cook
Kumar Sangakkara (wk)
Shiv Chanderpaul
Micheal Hussey
Dan Vettori
Shakib Al Hasan
Mitchell Johnson
Zaheer Khan
Doug Bollinger

This certainly was an effort. :p

As much as that hurts me, It was either having Sanga keep or have Parthiv Patel in the side.

Just the first players you could think of, or were you trying to actually put together the best team possible?

Because yet another person leaving out O'Reilly after I already pointed it out would get on my nerves. :p

Can't believe Howe_zat had the sheer nerve to post this team without reading through my 3 elevens first.

So many good openers to choose from. And SLA bowlers.
