'Not' the greatest XI.

State Vice-Captain
Here you can post a team of players who are not considered to be the 'greatest' of all time but are good international players who have had some good performances to their name or either had the potential but not given chances(due to too much competition or some other reason) or you can also pick promising young players in your side, but please do not mention any big names in the teams. Just try to get the combination right and pick a 11 which can beat even the best teams despite of not having the best players.

Aiden Blizzard
Boeta Dippenaar
Darren Bravo
Kane Williamson
Scott Styris
Shahid Afridi
Ricardo Powell
Murali Kartik
Jerome Taylor
Shane Bond
Nantie Hayward

In the batting department, Blizzard is an unpredictable and aggressive opener along with solid Boeta Dippenaar followed by Darren Bravo , Williamson and Styris who are good players of the middle overs and can stay at the crease or attack when required, and Afridi and Ricardo Powell are a really dangerous lower order who can score quickly in the last 10 or 15 overs,

In the bowling lineup,
Bond and Taylor are fast bowlers with good control and speed, Hayward is erratic at times but can pick up wickets with his pace and variation and Styris is a useful medium pacer with his cutters and slower ones(can complete Hayward's remaining overs if he is too expensive).
And there are 3 spinners, Afridi and Murali Kartik who are both very difficut to get away with and Off spin of Williamson can be handy.

Naah! Players who did not get the proper chances or were not handled well...
Not exactly that, just a XI which consists of good players and not the 'greats'.
You can pick players who have been decent(but not the greatest) in international cricket like Scott Styris,
or players who are young and look promising, or players who didn't get to play for long because of injuries (e.g. Bond) or not being given proper chances(e.g. Murali Kartik),etc.

You cannot pick any of the great players and try and make a team combination which can still beat the best teams.

Good choice, especially Cork and Macgill, and m glad you still remember Asim Kamal, looked like a good test player, should have played more.

International Coach
Kamal had the technique and temperament to play test cricket. Wish he was handled better!

And yeah, Cork was one of my fav. back in mid 90s. That lovely action and the glare...

Perhaps if he was born 30 years earlier when keeping skill was the priority over batting ability.

One that missed out due to circumstances :

1. Tennekoon ... Sri Lanka's best batsman in the years just b4 they started tests
2. Cook (Jimmy)... didn't get to play tests till well past his best
3. Stollmeyer V.... scored 96 in his only test, 1939, the last played before WW2
4. Irvine .... averaged 50 in 4 tests for SA before they disappeared from the game
5. Tikolo... I wonder if he ever thought of emigrating to a test playing nation?
6. Rice... decent allrounder!
7. Stephenson (Franklyn)... did great things for Notts, never picked for WI, went to SA...
8. Goonesene... Sri Lanka's second best ever spinner?
9. Rawson... Zim played a lot of "internationals" pre-test status, and he was v v good
10. Jennings* ... couldn't think of a better keeper
11. van der Bijl ... one season for Mid'*** suggested he'd have succeeded at test level

An unlucky eleven who deserved a few more tests :
1. Mark Benson
2. Andy Ganteaume
3. Stuart Law
4. Pravin Amre
5. Brad Hodge
6. David Lewis *
7. Mark Ealham
8. Andre Adams
9. Sylvester Clarke
10. Tommy Greenhough
11. Wayne Daniel
