From an Indian perspective

Gavaskar's 236 vs WI - check
Laxman's 281 vs AUS - check
Dev's 130 odd vs SA - check
Sehwag's 201 vs SL - check
Dravid's 223 vs AUS - check

Hence a good list

You could argue the same about Botham's innings tbh. He basically threw the stick at everything and got away with it. Both were fine knocks, of course.

Not much chance, I'm afraid The Top 100 took me at least two months to compile. It would take a shorter amount of time to do 101-200, but I am focusing on other things at the moment.

8.41. He only scored 27% of the team's runs and only 4 wkts were lost.

You make a very good point. Perhaps innings in heavy losses can be multiplied by 0.95 or something like that. That would drop Laxman's innings down to 11th.

The reverse of that would be that innings in huge wins could be muliplied by 1.25 instead of 1.30.

Far too low And what about Laxman's 2nd innings effort here? Should be right up there I think...

16.94, which puts him in the top 100, at 94.

Good work!

There are now three Laxman innings in the top 100. WAG.

surely this deserves to be there?

3rd Test: New Zealand v Pakistan at Dunedin, Feb 9-14, 1985 | Cricket Scorecard | ESPN Cricinfo

111* in the 4th innings to chase down 278 and win by 2 wickets after walking in at 4-23 against pakistan in a match where wasim akram took 10 wickets?

Thanks for looking at the Gavaskar one Steve - when this exercise gets done scores of less than 100 are usually ignored so its good to see you've included them

I'd be curious to know how Len Hutton's second innings 62* here rates

15.78

The problem with this is that he got good support from a top-order batsman (Crowe). He didn't start batting with the tail (as I define it), until 180/5.

That innings highlights one of the problems of my formula. I did not include point of entry because I deemed it to be too difficult a calculation to work out. I will think more about it.

Absolutely fantastic stuff DoG.

Which players appear most often in the top 100? It looks from going over the list that it's Bradman and Lara.

what about Inzamam's innings of 138 against Bangers at Multan where Pak won by one wicket? Where does that rank? in case you can tell that

Still 8th greatest of all time? No way. He may himself have played 8 better knocks than that. Don't think it was even nominated in the recent "battle of test hundreds" thread.

EDIT: Oh and India was not following on in this match (as the article says). That was Kolkata, an year later

If it was against a non-minnow, it would be a lot higher.

Good to see Sehwag's innings get the appreciation it deserves.

Dravid's 223 is too high IMO. A fine knock but against a toothless attack and not top 30 material.

Hughes knock too low IMO, but it'd still be too low if it was at number two.

Awesome effort DoG, really must've taken quite a bit of time.

If you could, Could you please calculate the value for Herbie Taylor's 109 in this match.

Also his 93 in the second innings of this game

Thanks.
