I would like to be able to do this for other nations, but it would be too time consuming as I'm pretty busy alot of the time. So since I live in Australia & support Australia, I figured I'll just do rankings for Australian cricketers.jamee999 said:

2003 Test Batting Report
Mathew Hayden had just edged out Ricky Ponting to be Australia's No.1 Test Batsman for 2003. Both these players have had a superb year in the Test arena. Hayden with 380 against Zimbabwe, a world record. Also Ponting (along with his superb 2003 ODI form) scored three double centuries with 206 vs. the West Indies, 242 vs. India & 257 again vs. India.
Ponting was No.1 (after the 1st innings against India at the MCG where he scored 257) until the last Australian test innings of 2003 (2nd innings vs. India at the MCG). Had Hayden not scored a half century (53*), Ricky Ponting would of been Australia's No.1 Test Batsman for 2003. Thats how close it was in the end. Though Hayden and Ponting were in a class of their own as the No.3 Australian Test Batsman for 2003 (Steve Waugh) only acumulated 1344 points, over 1000 points behind Hayden and Ponting :O
Jason Gillespie finished ahead of Brett Lee due to Gillespie obtaining a higher score during Australia's Tests for 2003 (48* to Lee's 46) .
2003 Test Bowling Report
Stuart MacGill dominated 2003, beating Jason Gillespie by 401 points. MacGill did not waste his opportunity being in the team (due to Warne's suspension) becoming Australia's leading wicket taker in Tests for 2003.
A good performance from Simon Katich. In his few Tests back, he managed an excellent (for a part timer) 362 points@51.71 from the seven innings he bowled in.

He is probably the best part time bowler in the world. But I also remember everyone saying that about Bevan when he took his 10 wickets against the West Indies, and where is he now? I haven't seen him bowl in ages. Anyone know what happened to him? I used to really rate him.Ford_GTHO351 said:

I was refering to Katich's bowling so far this year only. Who knows, he might continue to bowl well or he could very well not perform again with his bowling. Only time will tell.halsey said:
As with Bevan, most know that he is not in the Australian Test side due to perceptions of not being able to cope with the short ball whilst batting. Even nowdays being only in the Australian ODI side, Bevan hasn't been able to bowl as of late due to problems with his sholder (I think its the sholder or some other problem that has restricted his bowling).

Well a new year has arrived and whilst it has been only Australia's first test match they have played this year, Simon Katich had performed very well with the bat. Provided he can nail a more permament spot in the test side, he could rank highly this year.
I would like to say farewell to Steve Waugh. He has been a champion, great captain and a legend in both forms of the game. He also has set the standard in which Test cricket should be played through his attacking captaincy. He has made the side attack when they bat, the side scores reguarly at 4 RPO or more. Great to watch
Also with the bowling, the side is always looking to get a wicket off the first ball of the game. Plus under Waugh's captaincy, the draw is consigned to the recycle bin, which therefore creates results. That can only be good for cricket in general.
He has changed not only Australian cricket, but world cricket for the better. He will start to side from his No.4 batting ranking, but he wont be forgotten. His legacy will live on. Thanks for the memories Steve Waugh

I'm sorry but those rankings are seriously flawed if you rank Brett Lee the same as Jason Gillespie on THAT performance.

luckyeddie, whilst Brett Lee had a bad game overall (shocking economy, no balls etc), he was Australia's leading wicket taker in the first innings (four wickets) which helped him to No.2. After all as a bowler you are there to take wickets and Lee was rewarded for that. Gillespie was economical (3 RPO) in the first innings and he took four wickets (three in the 1st innings, one in the 2nd innings) which helped his points score. Gillespie is ahead of Lee due to his better economy rate (tie breaker).luckyeddie said:

Good contributions from Hayden & Martyn also. Though as the rankings show, that Gilchrist's 172 (126) means that he has a huge lead in the Australian ODI Batting Rankings. Gilchrist leads Symonds and Clarke by a whopping 267 points.

A great century by Mathew Hayden has seen him jump to number two in the Australian ODI batting rankings, though it wasn't enough to stop a Indian victory. VVS Laxman hit a well made 103* with good support from Sachin Tendulkar who scored 86 whilst injured & Rahul Dravid hitting a good 74. Also India's bowlers did well, in particular Balaji & Pathan. Ricky Ponting is at No.7 which is not a good start to trying to acheive a hat-trick of being Australia's No1 ODI Batsman for the Year as he was No.1 in 2002 & 2003.

A great century by Mathew Hayden has seen him jump to number two in the Australian ODI batting rankings, though it wasn't enough to stop a Indian victory. VVS Laxman hit a well made 103* with good support from Sachin Tendulkar who scored 86 whilst injured & Rahul Dravid hitting a good 74. Also India's bowlers did well, in particular Balaji & Pathan. Ricky Ponting is at No.7 which is not a good start to trying to acheive a hat-trick of being Australia's No1 ODI Batsman for the Year as he was No.1 in 2002 & 2003.

Adam Gilchrist continues his good run with the bat with an exciting 95 off just 72 balls. Good support from Ponting also with 42 off 54 balls. Andy Bichel & Brett Lee had shown great composure to help win the game for Australia. Yuvraj Singh's 139 off 122 was a great performance along with VVS Laxman's 106* off 130.
Gilchrist continues to lead the batting rankings comfortbally and even with now a two match rest, I still believe that Gilchrist will still be No.1. Brad Williams has a big lead in the bowling rankings with the likes of Jason Gillespie & Brett Lee having to play catch up so far.

Well another win to Australia as expected, though Zimbabwe's performances have improved as the VB Series has moved on.
Michael Bevan: Promotion to No.4 = Runs, Bevan made a good 75 off 91 balls. Ricky Ponting also chipped in with 63 off 71. Michael Clarke (36 off 49) and Andy Symonds (34 off 30) conributed also with the bat. Heath Streak took 3/45 (10), a good bowling performance. Grant Flower's 94 (106) was good, slow to start but he picked up the pace later on in his man of the match innings. Though in the end Australia ended up winning by 13 runs.
In the Batting Rankings, it is tight from No.3 to No.6 with the gap being only 38 points. Though interestingly with the players from No.3 to No.6, Michael Bevan (No.6) averages the most points and he is 3rd overall in batting points averages. In the Bowling Rankings, Brad Williams continues to perform well and he has a 149 point lead over No.2 Andy Symonds.
