Did Clarke go up the rankings after his 70 mate? It was a very good innings.
Strangely his overall 'average' went down.....

His position didn't change neither.

No Clarke stayed in the same position. With my rankings, you will often improve your rank if you not only perform well, but also if you can play often. Clarke has only batted seven times this year so it is hard for him to improve his rank. Though if he could bat like he did for the remaining ODI's in India, he could come close to passing Darren Lehmann in the batting rankings.

Clarkes average is amazing (118.00 points per innings). Though it is admitely high due to his few not outs and his drop in his average despite his 70 reflects this.

Bowling
Nathan Bracken up from 8th to 7th.
Brad Williams down from 7th to 8th.
Michael Kasprowicz up to 15th place in his first bowling apperance this year for Australia.

Andy Bichel needs some really good bowling performances in the last two remaining ODI's for Australia if he is to overtake Brett Lee. Bracken and Williams are both in a close fight in the rankings and both have in recent matches traded positions on a regular basis.

How about this - ya got any fielding records because Bevan robbed Hogg of a wicket with that dropped catch. (Having said that he had been hit about 80 metres away)

You might want to check Steve Waugh's batting points average.

No this is not a mistake. Steve Waugh does average 160.37 points per test innings in 2003.
This is a combination of good form and alot of not outs.

I thought that would have put him at No.1 then.

Mathew Hayden has had a cracker 2003 in the Test arena. Hayden is by a country mile the No.1 Australian Test batsman for 2003.

I think you should rank them on points average, but filter out players who have played less than 10 ODI matches, and 5 Test matches, so you can't have someone being top just because of 1 good match

I don't think that averages should decide who is the best player. You have too many variables in averages, particuarly with batting averages with not outs, batting order etc. If it was calculated on averages you could have for example one player (who has met your criteria of 10 ODI matches, and 5 Test matches) scoring 550 points from 10 innings with zero not outs, therefore averaging 55 pts. Then compared with a player who may for example have scored 275 points from 10 innings with 6 not outs, therefore averaging 68.75.

So I think it is not fair or accurate to rank on averages. Averages are good to compare players performances, but not to solely use the average for an ranking.

The best players are the ones who are consistent and ones who also can produce that big performance from time to time.

Tom Halsey

International Coach
I didn't mean batting average. I meant your points average that you have created with your secret formula. It is very accurate

PY

International Coach
From his last post, I think he is saying that his point average is directly linked to runs scored and not outs anyway (not too surprising that :duh: ) so they have an affect anyway. Plus he used points in his example as well!

:)

Ford_GTHO351

U19 Vice-Captain
Yes I was indicating points scored, not runs scored.

Like PY said my points average is directly linked to runs scored and not outs.

Though I allocate points (batting wise) not just according to the number of runs scored but factors like strike rates, half century/century achieved, not outs etc. and just like a proper batting average (runs scored), my points average is influenced by not outs.

My formula (points allocation) is not perfect, like all rankings. Though I think it is fairly accurate.
