Indian Domestic Season 2011/2012

Squad for the Irani Trophy has been announced.

Quote:

Rest of India squad: Parthiv Patel (capt), Shikhar Dhawan, Abhinav Mukund, Ajinkya Rahane, Manish Pandey, Ravindra Jadeja, Mandeep Singh, Pragyan Ojha, Rahul Sharms, Umesh Yadav, Varun Aaron, Prashant Parmeshwaran, Pawan Suyal, Jalaj Saxena, C Gautham.

Would like to see how rahul sharma, umesh yadav and varun aaron perform in this match. Good performance by either of the seam bowlers could see them selected for England ODI series

Don't want new pace bowlers to debut in ODI's in India tbh.

Different matter for spinners, but it could dent the Seamers Confidence.

The rest of India should win this tbh. Hoping Mandeep Singh plays too.Seems a highly rated talent and want to see more of him.

Would have liked to have seen Sreenath Aravind and maybe Shrikant Wagh in the squad too.

Will be watching Pankaj Singh with interest and Chahar as well. Rajasthan have a decent batting lineup so they will definitely put up a fight. Aakash Chopra, Kanitkar the experienced ones with Menaria the young gun.

ROI should win it though I wouldn't put it past Rajasthan to make it a good game.

Sigh. Communication at it's very best.

Rabble.

Anyway when was the last time ROI lost the Irani Trophy btw?

Poor Vinay Kumar. He's a 'corrected' replacement for injured Pawan Suyal, despite being a significantly better bowler than Suyal. Maybe the part on fitness-suspect Ishank is genuine, but picking an injured Suyal is silly. It makes the BCCI's stupidity of scheduling it during the CLT20 look smart. This ROI squad, picked with unavailability of top Indian frontline and reserve players in mind, looks weak enough for the Rajasthan side, bolstered with journeymen, to take down. The selection of Rahul Sharma is also very premature, but again forced, though the option of Mishra wasn't explored. The biggest omission, though, is that of Wasim Jaffer.

Umesh-Aaron-Vinay-Ojha-Rahul will be a good attack. The top six, though, is a little weak.

Rajat Bhatia 'moulded himself for the IPL'.

He's made a lot of good points. He too laments not being considered for international cricket despite a fantastic 07-08 season, and is grateful to the IPL, but still considers 3-days-and-over cricket as something critical. Despite his shortcomings, he'd still be a far better international selection that that selfish wart Ravindra Jadeja.

Kaif quits UP captaincy, Raina to take over, RP Singh as deputy.

Not the best for that team, or those players. Raina is still yet to establish himself as a long-game batsman, and Kaif was going reasonably well. If it helps him finish two good seasons, it'll be good for him. Should have been an international prospect in place of those sundry wicketkeepers.

Kambli retires from first-class cricket.

He's been in the limelight outside of the cricket scene, but for all his shortcomings, enjoyed his game and played to win. So much unlike his eventual, technically-correct replacement Sanjay Manjrekar, whose technical emphasis of sorts made him a sore thumb in the side for a long time. If only Kambli didn't fall prey to the hard side of stardom.

This Challenger nonsense is a waste of time and space in the Indian team. You can't judge a player by individual performances in two-and-a-half matches.

The squads are completely and totally laughable. India Blue should have the best and seniormost players- and nowhere do Yaju K, Prasanth P and Mandeep Singh figure as such. It's a dilution of the squads that serves no purpose. The Challenger should have been a workout for the Indian main team against the first reserves and the development team, but time and again, it's been diluted for a selection shoot-out. Dreadful, to say the least.

We are talking ODI cricket, I presume? Seen a fair bit of Mr. Bhatia and I don't think he is test quality. Batting can be acceptable for top six in the subcontinent, but his bowling just isn't there. A very hard-working man nonetheless and bowls with great intelligence in the shorter format of the game.

Disagree on his batting being top 6 tbh. Is at best Averagish with the bat.

In fact i would say his bowling is slightly better than you are giving him credit for, though.

But agree overall about him just being a decent, hard working cricketer and nothing more. Can possibly make the team seeing people who have in the past, but would rather have many other options ahead of him.
