Dear Ricky Ponting,

I haven't always been your biggest supporter, but you have been a great player for Australia and you have entertained many Australian (and international) cricket fans.

You've had a wonderful career and you should be proud of all your achievements.

South Africa have defined themselves by bowling extremely well from the get-go. Probably the biggest difference between them and us.

Well then. A nice little knock to end a very very fine career, assuming if that's what it turns out to be.

Though Harby won't be touring and Ponting does great against India in Australia anyway, so might have a few more series in him....

Not Terrible
Ponting kept out some awesome deliveries this morning, and a few more tested his outside edge.

Gets out to a nothing ball. Anticlimax FTL

Farewell Ricky

Good on Rick for showing spine, but that should be it. Thanks for the memories Punter, but please don't try and stretch the friendship.
If that's the last ball of Chimpy's career :(

Don't think he should go like this. This knock proves that he's still not fully done. At the very least, he should be given the tests against NZ to prove himself. Not that it's the most threatening proposition and I firmly believe that class players always have the ability to go back and discover their second wind.

well this innings was the better than the last 3, but it was still pretty similar to the stuff in SL and further back eg
"oh he's in good knick. he's back!

what the hell was that shot ricky :("

Prove himself? Please. He doesn't have to prove anything. Look at his record! His place in the side is under question because he is not scoring runs, not because nobody knows if he can be a consistent player. Perfect opportunity to give a new guy a go, or continue playing a new guy against New Zealand.

For example we could very well see a pace attack with fewer than 10 test matches between them playing at the 'Gabba.
