A little surprised myself too. Whilst accepting he's only a stop gap, the impression I've garnered from up here was that his stock wasn't that high, hence the stunting aside to the academy.

So Warner, Finch, SOK, M.Marsh, Cummins, Pattinson, White & Dussey will be missing the first game of the Shield season to play in 2 meaningless T20's. + Wade. And in the case of Cummins, Warner and Pattinson we're dragging them around for the whole OD tour too. At least Dussey got dropped from the OD team.

Ah dammit forgot about the T20s when thinking of players pushing for their spots via Shield cricket. Although realistically none of them would have been in line for the Test squad well maybe Pattinson but he was in the last squad anyway.

Over to the side, they sure do rate Marsh as he has done nothing of note in T20. Hopefully only a couple of games for Cummins, we don't want to be over working him into an injury. Would have liked Warner to have one good season with NSW before the ODI recall but good luck to him on this run if he gets into the starting 11. Ferguson has completely dropped off the radar though, if anyone should have replaced Dussey it was him.

Yeah, he only averages 40+ in the format.

I'm concerned about the unseemly haste with Cummins frankly (and M Marsh to be fair). He's a prospect, but he's raw as.

Good to see Bollinger getting a bit of recognition.

Hmmm... Cummins a great prospect and all but it will be beyond strange if his first List A wicket comes against South Africa.

Oh sh - that changes everything. Drop MJ. We need Cummins to take an ODI wicket this tour. For the lulz.

Nice to see that part of the Argus review about picking players based on their performances has been completely ignored

So much fail. Everyone knows Cummins is a good prospect, but to miss two Shield games when our fast bowling depth is suspect, is insane. If he bagged a stack of wickets in those FC matches then he could well and truly be in the frame for spot later in the test summer, but you can't pick a fast bowler for a test based on T20 form SURELY?!?!?! Do we need our T20 and ODI side beefed up by Cummins at the expense of our test team?

Well we picked Lyon on T20 form so clearly Hilditch thinks we can!

Just throwing this out there.....there's no reason why Nannes couldn't've been in the squads, if only for depth. I mean Cummins and Pattinson aren't gonna learn jack carrying the drinks and will be missing two Shield when they both haven't played more than 5 already. While Nannes is a) better than them and b) is retired from FC cricket and c) should be in the T20 WC team next time if he's fit

edit whoops. Pattinson has played 6 matches.

Had an inkling they'd pick Cummins, premature yet predictable.

I think he's in a very similar situation to Brett Lee at the same age, in terms of ability and potential. It's a sign of the times that while the national setup were well aware of Lee and his potential as early as 1995, they didn't even seriously consider picking him until 1998/99 when he was 21ish. Whereas Cummins looks like he's going to be chucked straight in the deep end after about 3 good spells for NSW.

Is Hilditch still picking these sides?
