tbf it's very rough to blame either too much, they were both jaffas that you basically have to hope you don't edge.
That! Wouldn't give the batsmen too much **** for this. If such deliveries don't get wickets, pace bowlers might as well pack their bags and go home!

If Hughes knew where his off stump was he could have just left it.. Still yeah it was a great delivery.

Marsh is going to edge on I think..

Jayzus, by the cricinfo descriptions of Philander I'm expecting the ball to do a backflip followed by a figure of eight, then side stepping Ponting's bat to crash into offstump.

Both squared-up, though. Ball's moving, yes, but that's usually a misjudgement of the pace of the deck.

You would ljust love the Ponting of 2003 to smack around these guys and bat with the old authority....

Another beautiful delivery, this time from Philander. He's deserved that for his start, looks as though he could be an ideal foil for Steyn and Morkel. Hughes does look ugly when he's squared up like that, was lucky to get away with it the ball before.
Never seen a batsman look good when he gets squared up tbh.:p

Geez, you'd smell a similar square-up and big nick from Ponting, Clarke and Haddin on a pitch like this, wouldn't ya?

If Philander lives up to the hype, this has the makings of an awesome opening bowler partnership. Steyn with his ability to bowl ***y outswing at pace, and Philander with pace and ability to jag the ball both ways.

...and then Morkel.
