Shakib sacked

From cricinfo.

Ironically it seems it was his off-field conduct that was the final straw rather than the crapness.

Struggle to recall a worse test captain, tactically speaking.

Was always going to happen given the results vs. Zimbabwe.

Interesting to see Tamim get canned as VC, which is a good thing anyway imo. You don't want him having the pressures of captaincy. Will definitely affect his batting.

Probably a blessing in disguise for Shakib. Can't do everything. Very few allrounders have flourished when given the captaincy.

Two of their most beloved players sacked? I wonder how Bangladeshi fans feel about this.
From captaincy/vice-captaincy not the team, so they shouldn't be too upset. They are quite passionate about their star players, though, aren't they.

Afridi for Bangladesh captain, to retire after the next series, and re-emerge as captain of the Papua New Guinea women's team.

I was always willing to give Shakib a degree of lee-way due to his age and inexperience at the highest level, but while he was willing to try different things, he never came across as a particularly astute captain and there didn't always seem a great deal of logic behind some of his experiments.

Obviously both Shakib and Tamim can be, and have to be, very important players for Bangladesh, but in terms of captaincy options, I've a feeling they may look at Mushfiqur Rahim, although I hope they leave him to concentrate on his keeping and batting and look elsewhere.

Struggle to believe there isn't a better keeper in Bangladesh than Mushfiqur. Him giving away the gloves and playing as captain and specialist bat could be a boon. Best Bangla bat next to Tamim for my quid.

Think in terms of his batting, I agree, he has to be up there with Tamim as one of the best bats in the side. His keeping has been rocky, but I think with some work, he can become a decent gloveman, he has shown much promise in series gone-by.

However, if there are better keepers around and they are thinking of using Mushfiqur as a specialist batsman, then I wouldn't find the idea of him skippering the side quite so bad. I don't know how tactically aware he is, but in terms of enthusiasm, a guaranteed place in the side, and experience, he's probably as good a selection as anyone.

Personally, hope he picks up his keeping skills and concentrates on becoming a decent all-rounder.

They should appoint someone with a bit of experience who won't be weighed down by the weight of expectation, although IIRC didn't they ban all their experienced players for joining the ICL? Bashar or Rafique would be ideal

They did, but Nafees has come back from that so I wonder what's keeping them away. I would guess that the whole affair has led to Rafique and the others falling out with the board.

The only other play I can think of who's been in the team for any real length of time is Razzak.
