Do much for the Wasim haters ..........the guy was a real match winner and huge impact on matches. Great to see Imran quite up there too

Yeah Bowlers are probably more valuable in tests, and Batsmen in ODI's.

Had a quick look at the ODI MOTM list, Nathan Astle surprisingly stands out.

the surprising thing with that table is that even though McGrath and Warne were competing for wickets Shane Warne was probably the more impact player

Not really surprising; expected for me. Warne was an unbelievable force when it came to turning games and making notable contributions in matches. For me, in that regard he is the greatest.

Glad to see Wasim so high up. Also a fantastic player who you needed to watch at times to understand his contribution.

I was horrified when I saw this thread had reached eight pages until I opened it and was relieved to find it was no longer about the original topic. The ICC Awards are routinely a joke; they deserve very little attention at all from anyone.

Nah I have 40PPP and it gave me a quick excuse to shout at ****ybollocks. Still on page 3 for me.

That's because McGrath wasn't the only impact pacer in the team, but Warne was the only impact spinner. Warne had no competition in his side for those situations and conditions that bring spinners into play, while McGrath always had competition.

McGrath also wasn't as "great" an impact player as Warne because he'd often wreck the top order and end the match before it began.

This doesn't make much sense/isn't a great point. When Warne bowls an over another bowler (a pacer) bowled another over at the other end. In a lot of cases that was McGrath himself.

Ironically, it'd make more sense the other way round: when McGrath bowled Warne usually didn't compete with him - i.e. the new ball - but when Warne did McGrath still bowled later on with him too.

Are you just referring to the "teams of the year" they select, or even the "player of the year", "test player of the year" and "ODI player of the year" awards?

I actually think they usually get the main award of CotY more or less spot on. The rest of it's just decor though, and they clearly don't put much thought into it.
