DRAFT ORDER:

1. Mister Wright
2. luckyeddie
3. Slats4ever
4. marc71178
5. PY
6. JohnnyA
7. gibbsnsmith
8. Mr Mxyzptlk
9. Neil Pickup
10. iamdavid
11. age_master

There are no official rankings here, because we are using a unique scoring system. Please beware the the "best" batter of bowler is not necessarily the "best" pick.

Anyone else can jump in, as long as we have not finished the first round of drafting. After that, the draft will be set. PLEASE MAKE A POST IF YOU WANT IN.

Please pick like so:

1.01 Jim Smith

The first 1 is the round. The 01 is your place in the draft. This will be reversed when the draft doubles back at the end of each round. The last person will pick twice:

1.09 Harry Karri

2.01 Schrinivasalakavasikan ...

Check the Vintage Baseball Draft tthread linked in the very first post. That should answer any questions.

It would be nice if you could give a brief explanation of your pick, and why you picked him. Also, if you have his stats, you could post them too.

A few quick questions before I begin (I apologise, I don't have the time to look through the entire baseball thread):

1. Does keepe'rs points include stumpings with catches?

2. Can I pick yet?

Good question: let's say dismissals instead of catches. That will include all wicket keeping dismissals, run outs and outfield catches. I'll update the rules. That should increase the value of WK's a little

I'll continually update the first post, so you can refer there if you need reminding about rules etc.

Yes you can pick!

1.01 Alec Stewart (England) (WK) (143)

Batting Average - 39.55
Career Runs - 8463
Hundreds - 15

Bowling Average - n/a
Career Wickets - 0
5 wicket hauls - 0

Dismissals - 277 (263/14)

Even though it was tempting having the first pick going for an allrounder or a batsman like Gavaskar or a bowler like Walsh I thought it important to pick the highest scoring keeper, as there is only one.

It was close between Stewart and Flower. Flower's average is far superior, but Stewart has 4000+ more runs and over 100 more dismissals than Flower and three more hundreds.

With another 26 picks before I get my next one, I though it would be good to get the keeper now, before all the good ones were taken, hopefully there will be enough batsman, bowlers & allrounders left for my next pick.

How have I done Johnny A?

Another question - is it 24 hours per round of picks, or 24 hours per each separate pick?

Intersting choice MW. I thought Stewie would be definate 1st rounder. You get rid of a difficult position first. A good pick I think.

24 hours per pick. Occasionally the draft will be slowed down to a snails pace. Especially at the weekends. But if we all check in regularly, and email our picks when we're away, it should go quite smoothly.

Anyway, there's no hurry, and it gives us a chance to brush up on our short lists, and discuss each others picks ... and maybe do a bit of misguiding and crap talking

If anyone knows anyone else who might wanna jump in, please see to it before the end of the first round. It would be nice to have 12 competitors.

P.S. could you make the actual pick BOLD, so we can easilly see it.

Jon

Nope ... I'll put you in 10th on the list.

Anyone else can jump in until the first round in complete, up to a maximum of 14 teams we have 10 so far.

Welcome

Jon

Welcome. Can we please delete irelevant posts from the thread to keep it clean.

Jon

Should we create another "drafting only" thread, and leave the chat for this thread? It works with the baseball draft I'm doing.

Damn. Just made my selection and then read the rules afterwards - now realise that I've lost already .

Ah, well. Not changing it.

Don't worry - I had bigger fish to fry (match report on Bang v Eng). I checked that it was my go and then as soon as I had filed the close of play report got on to it

That must have been fun to write ... thrilling cricket - NOT!

Maybe it's not a bad pick ... time will tell

Best,

Jon
