ODIs at Telstra Stadium
 

Does anybody believe that sooner or later Cricket Australia will take ODIs from the SCG and move it to the 80,000 capaicty of Telstra Stadium (ex Stadium Australia - home of the Olympics)?

For pure money wise, it has everything going for it, suitable size for cricket, and when Australia play, you are almost guarnteed of a sell out - bar the MCG.

NSW played South Australia in a ING Cup match and it was very well attended for a ING Cup game.

Thoughts?

Considering how good the deck was in that game and how far the boundaries were roped in, if I was a batsman, I'd be begging for cricket to be played there!

Two words to the ******** at Stadium Australia,
**** off. they can't take the game which has so much history at the SCG, don would roll over in his grave if he heard this.

Talking of out grounds, whatever happened to cricket at the Colonial Stadium? - I know you guys don't get much rain but surely it's handy for all weather cricket, and from the games played there before it was getting some good reviews.

I dont think it would be bad if a few games were played at Telstra Stadium. But only a few. Theres nothing to lose....

I wouldnt like to see cricket being taken away from the SCG, even from an English perspective, the place oozes cricketing tradition, and its a world class venue to watch cricket from...

Craig, I must disagree with you on this one. While the Telstra Stadium unquestionably merits international cricket, to take it away from The SCG completely would be an act of vandalism against cricket's past, present and future.

Who cares where the game is played? The players and the spectators will be the same and (most importantly) the state will be the same.

Regardless, what will probably happen is that the SCG will win out but Cricket Australia will want games to be played at Telstra Stadium. So they'll take away another state's Test match to make it happen (I'm tipping Bellerive). Now THAT is unjust.

Telstra stadium is a good ground too, perhaps 1 ODI a year could be played there as well as a few Blues OD games and the womens games that are being played there. but the SCG should remain the home of cricket in this state. Also Telstra stadium is very expensive to run compared to the SCG, and it doesnt have the Warm up or practice area's that teh SCG has (like the indoor centre)

It's criminal what they did to the tests this year, 2 @ the SCG, none at Bellerive. I just can't believe it :(

And it was such a great turnout at the SCG for the test vs Zimbabwe.

Not having a test in Tasmania will hurt Tasmanian cricket, and ultimately Australian cricket.

Tasmania will get tests in the future for sure, they have nothing to worry about. They have a first class side, they get their 8-10 games a season, not to mention a couple of ODI's. I dont think the tasmanian people should be too upset.
They could live in Canberra, where we dont even have a FC side now, never had a test match, never had a one day international outside of the world cup. The best cricket australia could do was a match in april (football season) of aus A vs South africa A.
So overall, i dont think the Tasmanians have too much to whinge about.

Back to the topic at hand, Id like to see more cricket played at the teltra stadium, it seems that the SCG simply cant hold enough people for the major test match anymore. I would think that the first 2 days of the Sydney test would attract 70-80 thousand if held there.

1) It's one thing to never get any decent cricket and another entirely to have some and then have it taken away. I'm not sure which one is more insulting.

2) A three-hour trip to Sydney from Canberra is a tad different to a trip from Tassie to, well, anywhere to see a cricket match.

Yeah , Canberra at least deserves a ODI , c'mon even Tasmania get a couple , if Canberra still had all their home grown talent , Bevan , Haddin , Higgs , Karpinnen , Cunningham , Anthony Stuart etc they would actually be a very competitive side these days.

As for Telstra Stadium , I dont mind the idea of ODI's being played there as the stadium is much more accesible to those in the Western suburbs of Sydney & will feature greater capacity , provided it dosent take any matches off the SCG which has always been the traditional home of NSW cricket , as for the idea of test matches I dont like it , it will either take away from the SCG or other states.

You would have to admit the ground is awfully batsman friendly though , the boundaries were very short , there were one hell of a lot of sixes in that ING match (about 15 in both innings from memory) & some of them went an awfull long way back.

I dont think we would have Anthony Stuart anymore. But we would have other up and coming bowlers in Lea Hansen and Jason Voros. plus Haddin wouldnt be there anymore, david dawson who recently went to Tasmania is a better batsman than him anyway. In recent seasons there have been plenty of other good players come through, Jack Smith who had a SA contract last season is the best of the lot.

Watch out for a couple of young quick bowlers aswell , Julian Hodges (17) & Denver D'Cruz (20) , D'Cruz is a very mature bowler for his age & he swings it just nicely , as for Hodges he is ****ing quick , easily the quickest guy I've ever faced (he got clocked at up to 135kph at the AIS , not bad for a 17 year old).

I expect to see them both playing for the comets within a couple of seasons , as for Haddin he would play as a specialist batsman even if Dawson did keep , now that Dawson has gone to Tasmania do you reckon he will be chosen ahead of Clingellefer?
