The Indian tail has been poor in the English conditions so far this series, but has contributed quite a bit in recent past in pretty tough situations.
Need them to step up now, starting right from Dhoni.

Was world number 1 ODI batsman for a decent while.

In tests too he is a decent batsman tbf, to him just seems to be in poor form right now. Played some pretty crucial knocks last time in England even though his technique is not ideally suited for there and did decently in SA too. Is absolutely gun in the subcontinent too.

The problem with the tail is that they've always been coming in against the second new ball and didn't really stand a chance. Except in the second innings at TB, when Harbhajan did actually score a few.

How "handy" the tail-enders are won't make much difference, what India need to do better is protect the tail from the second new ball. That's why Dhoni swinging the bat at a Broad outswinger in the first innings at TB was so, so dreadful, and a turning point of the match.

They need to make sure England don't bowl them out of form too, they did it to Australia. Dhoni's the one I'd worry about. Nothing messes with a batsman's mind quite like getting out leaving early in his innings.

Dhoni's batting against the second new ball in both Tests so far has been utterly moronic.
Been batting like a man with way too much going on in his head. His keeping is the same. Whether the pressure has finally got to him or he is just totally shattered I don't know but he looks a man who needs a rest.

India in England 2011: Mental fatigue is a concern for players - Upton - Upton | Cricket News | England v India 2011 | ESPN Cricinfo

Hasn't had a break for a while now. The only one he did was for the ODI's in the West Indies. And he looked poor in the tests there too.

Though as for his keeping , he had problems with the late swing last time in England too. The only real country where he has had problems.
