    Worst ODI batsman in 2000s

Chamara Kapugedara is the one IMO. I'm talking about specialist ODI batsman not all-rounders.

yep it has to be him, and by quite a distance too. in other countries, perennial failures like these get axed after a considerable amount of chances are given, but the sri lankan selection system somehow keeps him in their team despite repeated failures. can't understand the reason...
    I'll show how it's done....

Read an article written by a Sri Lankan this morning. It said:

"Kapugedara, despite his talent has been disastrous with the bat in his 87-match ODI career and the tag “the more he fails the more he plays and the more he plays the more he fails” suits him perfectly."

Worse cricketer of our era. His average tells it all. Mentioned as a big hitter with 70 odd SR is a joke.

we'll have to set some qualification standards. say, 60 matches minimum? otherwise can't say whether he's a REAL failure or not.

I don't see any competition here if you exclude minnows, wins it hands down.

Can't really say much for Stewart, as he was given a brief chance and didn't take it. Keeping the same logic we used when discussing greats, someone like Kapugedera has proved his pantsness over a long period.

Anyway, since this is ODIs, I'm there's plenty of associate bats that played way above their level for way too long. Bas Zuiderent played one of the worst innings I've ever seen from an international batsman in the World Cup.

I will also mention Bangladesh's Javed Omar, who played 59 ODIs with a strike rate of 52.

"Your averages, captain, coaches and players can probably survive incompetence over a relatively short series, so if you’re going to be rubbish, make sure it’s against Pakistan, Sri Lanka, New Zealand or someone."

To be fair, I think we should consider players who played at least 25 ODIs.

Average 30 isn't good with a good Strikerate??? More than enough IMO. But when it comes to Kapugedara he's the worse of the lot.

Agree. Really let the team down so often, disgrace to his country. Would rather have had Kapugedara.
