Best 3 Tests in a row?

We wait for Edgbaston to see if Broad or Dravid come into contention for this list.
Broad, maybe? If only he'd batted in the 3rd Test.

vs India at Lord's: 0, 4-37, 74*, 3-57
vs India at Trent Bridge: 64, 6-46, 44, 2-30
vs India at Edgbaston: 4-53, DNB, 2-28

He's been batting at 60.66 and bowling at 11.95.

Then there's Bresnan.

vs Australia at the SCG: 3-89, 35, 2-51
vs India at Trent Bridge: 11, 2-48, 90, 5-48
vs India at Edgbaston: 4-62, 53*, 1-19

Batting @ 63; bowling @ 18.6.

Murali has some great streaks. But I don't know if too many players can rank with his home series v Australia in 04.

1st Test - 6/59 & 5/153
2nd Test - 4/48 & 5/173
3rd Test - 5/123 & 3/98

28 @ 23.36 but on the end of three defeats after leading on the first innings in each match. Can't think of a better effort in three consecutive losing tests. Warne of course took 26 @ 20.03 for the victors.

Agree Lara is probably the best batting effort in a losing cause. Call it a draw?

Didn't Andy Flower also play a great series in Sri Lanka finishing on a losing side? Those were 2 tests or 3?

NOT 3 BUT 5....The tied test series 1960/61...Australia vs West Indies...probably ranks with the best test cricket i have ever seen

Has to be up there. First two are two of the most complete bowling all-rounder performances I've seen in ages.

someone was asking about Davo in that series:

Brisbane (1st Test)
5/132, 44, 6/87, 80

Melbourne (2nd Test)
35, 6/53, 2/51, dnb

Sydney (3rd Test)
5/80, 16, 3/33, 1

27 wickets @ 16.15, 176 runs @ 35.2

Not too shabby. He missed the 4th test, but came back with 6-fer in the 5th.

He had a very good series against Sri Lanka at home (had a poor record in Sri Lanka...) in 1999 but I think you are thinking of Flower against South Africa in 2001.

Could also be his series vs India in 2000.

Didn't realise quite how good Flower was in 2000/01 - 1900-odd runs @ 84

Off the top of my head, to match those, I can only think of Cook's run from the start of this year:

189 vs Australia
133 vs Sri Lanka
96 & 106 vs Sri Lanka

Didn't Steyn once have a series against NZ where he took 10-fers in all the matches?
Only the 2 tests but Steyn averaged 9 with the ball in that series, took 20 wickets (+ he took Craig Cummings out of the game in the first innings 2nd test) and was taking a wicket pretty much every 20 balls.

He became the first Test cricketer to score 100 runs and take 10 wickets in that match

Broad is averaging 11.95 against a much better batting side leave his batting side just as a bowler he might be having one of the greatest series ever for a fast bowler.
Yeah he is, add in the batting and he is having one of the best series by any player ever. He has stats that Botham, Imran etc... would kill for in such a massive series.

The big test for Broad is that he has to do it again on a consistant basis, obviously nobody is expecting performances at the same level but a longish run averaging over 30 with the bat and less than 30 with ball would be very good as far as the team is concerned and the way he would be perceived as a player worldwide.

Partially thanks to this series, he's actually been doing that for about two years now.

Edit: He's actually been averaging 27 with bat and ball. Thought it was closer to 30.
