2nd Test vs India

CW took an unchanged side into the second Test. The visitors won the toss again and chose to field.

Sehwag hit Capone's first ball for four, but the left-armer came back strongly to dismiss Rowland in the next over. Sehwag built a solid partnership with Tendulkar, but Corrin snagged both to make it CW's session.

Dravid and Kambli played the spinners with caution, but Dong bowled the latter for 40 during his second spell. Yuvraj settled in with Dravid though, and Clark's last over before tea went for 14, the Indians having recovered to 211/4, and the pair also managed to see off the new ball later in the day.

Dravid eventually fell just before the close (96 off 212), and would be especially disappointed not making it when Deshpande also failed. India closed an even day on 304/6.

Corrin and Capone saw to it that the tail wouldn't wag and CW were batting (in reply to 335) within the hour. Only one casualty in the session - Heads out to a brilliant caught and bowled from Salvi - stopped CW from claiming control.

REMOVED and Narang failed to convert their starts as Kumble removed both, and Spark was bowled by Paul after an aggressive 32 to bring the match right back into the balance.

Unfortunately for CW it was the same story right the way through - until the tail, which folded. The tourists were all out for 278, the last 6 wickets having fell for 78, and India claimed a lead of 57 early on day 3.

India extended their lead without loss by lunch, but Capone and Corrin struck in successive balls shortly after to remove the openers. After another solid-looking third wicket partnership, Dean removed Tendulkar, and Capone dismissed Kambli and Yuvraj in one over. The score at tea was 120/5, a lead of 178.

Only 46 came from the final session as India seemed to be playing for stumps rather than setting a target. Deshpande was worked out by Corrin after a dour 9 from 48 balls, and Kumble fell soon after. Dravid however was the main obstacle and he started day 5 on 62 from 191.

Capone was the man to get through the Wall early on with a stunning yorker, and from there Dong snapped up the two tailenders. India were all out for 190 and CW would chase 247 for victory in two and a half sessions, a tough ask on a pitch looking more and more like a nightmare for the batsmen.

REMOVED became the latest victim of a first-baller, and scoring was found to be dangerous business. Heads and Narang saw CW to the break on 27/1. The visitors then erred their way through the next session as Kumble proved ever the handful, claiming the scalps of Heads, Narang and Spark after all had managed starts. The chase was still alive, however - 125/4 was the score.

Kumble proved to be too much on his turf. The legspinner took out both Riley and Dharan to throw any plans of winning out of the window, and it was left to Corrin to cling on with the tail after Clark was bowled for 6.

Kumble was not done, however, also getting one past Dean's defence to leave India on the bring of victory. But Capone (9 off 34) joined Corrin (17 off 86) in a dogged last stand of over an hour to give the visitors hope. In a nail-biting climax, both were undone by Shib Paul as India claimed the win.

Really poor performance with the bat in both the innings by the whole team.

Got starts but Kumble picked me up both times:( and in the first innings losing so many wickets to Paul and Salvi for such a score is dire.

How the hell did Paul and Salvi get into the India team in the first place?

Two more starts, but could have done with improving to help go for the win.

Reckon I've taken the most catches out of everyone on the team though.

Catches win matches and all that.

3 changes were made for the final Test as Winne, Hing and Ballich came in for Clark, Spark and Dean. Once again the toss was theirs and so batted first.

Things got off to an excellent start for the visitors as the CW openers punished some poor bowling in the opening session, an opening partnership of 118 before lunch before REMOVED once again fell after making it to fifty.

Heads did the same after the break, and CW's batsmen were again plagued by Inida's spinners - as well as an inability to convert healthy 30s and 40s into sizeable scores. Narang and Dharan's failures also looked to be continuing on this tour. Winne and Corrin consolidated, and reached stumps at a disappointing 259/7.

Corrin (75*) managed to push CW up to a reasonable total after Winne departed for 35, adding most of his runs with Capone (46). Their 85-run partnership frustrating the hosts before Kumble and Harbhajan took the final two wickets, finishing with nine between them as CW reached 374. India were untroubled in response, and reached the close at 76 without loss.

CW made regular breakthroughs on the third day, Corrin and Capone with two each, but could not stop Kambli from hitting his way to a hundred off 151 balls. He was eventually caught off Winne for 125, and was the eighth wicket down with India 35 behind. Winne's spell would hand CW the advantage, as the allrounder's four dismissed the tail and earned his team a lead of 22, with exactly three days gone.

Disaster struck on the fourth morning as CW were reduced to 7/3, REMOVED, Heads and Narang all heading off cheaply. Paul's spell of 2 wickets for 5 runs shook them, and though Ballich and Riley rebuilt with a 50 partnership, Harbhajan had both Ballich and soon Dharan back in the hutch before lunch. The score read 93/5 at the break.

Riley however was still there, and came together with Winne to bat throughout the day. Adding two hundred runs in the two sessions not only saved the innings, but also kept the win alive as Riley brought up his second test hundred (and by far his most needed).

Winne fell short of his hundred, and Riley his double, as India put a quick stop to the innings on the 5th morning. CW had built a lead of 365 when the tenth wicket went down and had the rest of the day to aim for a series-levelling win.

The final two sessions saw India's attempts to resist an incredible display of bowling from Robert Hing. The left-armer claimed six wickets as the Indian order buckled, but Dravid (46 off 170) and Harbhajan (11* of 40) clung on to see the home side to safety, and a series win.

CW drew with India and lost the series 1-0

Why didn't you declare sooner? At least one session too late, I'd have thought.

I wouldn't want to declare with a lead of 300 at the start of the day, so I gave them another half an hour with extra aggression. We weren't that far ahead a session previously.
