Tour match vs Karnataka

CW arrived in India and were given a three-day warm-up match prior to the Test series and several test spaces were up for grabs. CW won the toss and batted.

Playing XI: REMOVED, Heads, Ballich, Riley, Dharan, Clark, Winne, Hing, Corrin, Howe, Noble

Heads' disappointing run continued as both openers were removed in the first hour. Ballich had helped Riley recover for the tourists with a stand of 98 before he was caught behind for 66; and from then on the day belonged to Riley (153) and Dharan (165). Their double-hundred stand put CW firmly in control and was scored at such at rate that, once Riley was caught lbw late on, Devon Clark brought up the 400 in the last over before stumps.

CW looked to press on during the fourth morning and though wickets fell in the pursuit of quick runs, they sent their score swiftly past 500. Most of the morning's runs came from Winne, who hit his 88 from 80 balls, and was the last man out as the declaration came just before lunch at 536/9. Given a few tricky overs, Karnataka's opener Rowland was out to Howe with the final delivery of the session.

Four more wickets - all of them bowled - fell during the afternoon, 125/5 the score at tea. Clarke had picked up two after Howe's second, while Corrin had taken the fifth late on. Noble was the only bowler to emerge disappointed, as his wicketless opening spell went for nearly a run a ball. Hing cleaned up the tail with three wickets in the evening and Karnataka were asked to follow on, having slipped to 163 all out.

Once again the home side's innings soon turned into a procession. Noble made up for his earlier display with an early wicket, as did two for the previously wicketless Winne. The real honours went to Corrin, who after having struck with his first ball, bowled a spell of nine overs for two wickets and six runs.

Sunil Joshi and Anil Kumble showed some resistance late on, but this time it was Howe's turn to clean up the tail and finish with four wickets in the innings. Karnataka had subsided to 152 all out, and a drubbing.

CW won by an innings and 221 runs.

Getting runs but the wickets are lacking thus far. More economical in that one, I guess.

Whatever it takes!!!
Awesome work team.. The Corrin/Hing spin partnership rocks. :) Obviously they are used to putting a spin on things.. ;)

Kidding guys :) Awesome work though. So nice that we have so many bowling options too. Spinners doing well is a good sign for the series.

1st Test vs India

CW won the toss and batted on a typical Indian surface. Playing XI: REMOVED, Heads, Narang, Spark, Riley, Dharan, Clark, Corrin, Capone, Dean, Dong.

REMOVED played the first hour cautiously but was out for 17 when India turned to their spinners. Heads managed to work past his shaky run by bringing up his 50 before lunch, and though Kumble picked up his second wicket of Narang, built a solid partnership with Spark on his way to a hundred.

India fought their way back in the evening session as Spark fell for 63 and Riley soon after. Heads' innings came to an end when he was bowled for 155, but Dharan and Clark reached stumps safely on 304/5.

Dharan passed 50 in the morning session but both him and Clark fell within the first hour, and Dean was lbw for a 15-ball duck as CW tried to push toward 400. Corrin and Capone brought up the figure in the afternoon, but after a brief rain break both were out quickly to end the innings on 425.

Capone struck early for CW, removing both openers, but Dravid and Tendulkar soon settled in and reached stumps on 109/2. The pair had put on 95 when Capone returned and bowled Tendulkar in his first over. Dravid was still there though, and brought up his 50 from 148 balls on the stroke of lunch.

CW were just about to take the new ball when Dean struck, taking out Kambli, Dravid and Deshpande in quick time and putting the visitors on top. Capone and Dong then removed Harbhajan and Kumble, and India reached tea on day three in serious trouble at 256/8.

Capone completed his five-for with the final wicket as CW claimed a lead of exactly 150, but were forced to tread carefully as they lost Heads before the close. India went on to take four wickets in the morning, as REMOVED, Narang, Spark and Riley all made starts but failed to press home the advantage.

It was left to Dharan (76) and Clark (75) to establish CW's total, and the visitors were able to reach 309 before the tail was skittled. A target of 460 looked a daunting task for the Indians on a pitch starting to break up, and the home side were happy to reach stumps on day four unscathed.

A session later and no wickets came. Sehwag and Rowland batted excellently to reach lunch at 122/0. Dong removed Sehwag to dispel the chance of an unlikely home win, but the game looked to be saved until Corrin struck three times in his second spell just before tea. the hosts entered the final session with six wickets left and nearly 200 runs from victory.

Tendulkar (50 from 140) and Yuvraj (34 from 106) again brought India towards safety, until Dong struck to remove Tendulkar. That opened up a riveting final half hour during which the spinners claimed three more wickets, but it was too late for CW as Kumble saw out the final few overs.

CW drew with India

Ah well, pretty pleased with passing 70 in both innings but really should have kicked on, esp. in the first dig.. Well done to Capone and Corrin on the 5fers. Heads was awesome.

Riley missing out is a shame. Hope he is back in form for the next test. Same with Narang. :)

Poor match for me, but a nice win for the team.

Capone and Corrin doing pretty well with the ball and Dean with the bat.
