*Official* West Indies in Zimbabwe

I was going to start this yesterday, but I figured it would probably have been too soon. Then I remembered how early some other series threads were opened.

Also, the WI squad is expected to be named on Wednesday.

The 16 I would like to see...

BC Lara (capt)
RR Sarwan (vc)
CS Baugh (wk)
CH Gayle
WW Hinds
S Chanderpaul
D Ganga
DS Smith
MN Samuels
OAC Banks
M Dillon
VC Drakes
DB Powell
FH Edwards
CD Collymore
D Mohammed

ODI: RL Powell for D Ganga, JE Taylor possibly for Dillon.

8 bats, 1 allrounder, 1 'keeper (Hinds will backup), 1 spinner and 6 seamers. That seems a nice balanced touring party.

I must say these "Official" Threads do seem to be getting a bit too early - couldn't we at least wait for the sides to finish the series they're playing?

If not, I'm going to start and Official Ashes 2005 thread next week!

Is Jacobs injured, or has he retired?

What about Dillon? Is he going to be ok? Also your breakdown of player types adds up to 17!

I'd predict that's the likeliest squad - Dave Mohammad's probably the only one less than certain (barring injury).
What's happened to Jacobs?

Dillon has recovered. He'll be playing for T&T in the Red Stripe Bowl semis on Friday.

Jacobs hasn't retired. I haven't picked him to go to Zimbabwe because I think that Zimbabwe would be good opposition to let Baugh try to find his feet against and get some exposure. I'd certainly send Jacobs to SA though, because of his good record against them and because of his experience. I still think he has something to offer the West Indies team.

Also, I meant 6 bowlers - 5 seamers, 1 spinner.

Jermain Lawson

Mr Mxy,

What's the latest regarding Jermaine Lawson?
I would have thought that if his action had been rectified -- he'd be in the touring party.

Amongst the others, is there anyone there capable of genuine pace ?

Lawson has had injury woes mixed in with his action-solving. He missed the RSB through injury I believe.

Taylor is 85-90 generally and so is Edwards. Both can cross 90mph.

Daren Powell is usually around 90+ mph. There are also a few more young pacers who are quick.

Lara stated that at this point in his career and life, personal milestones aren't important to him. He has said that what he wants now is to lead the West Indies somewhere toward the top of the pile again by the time he retires. That's the mark he wants to leave on WI cricket.

I hope Edwards does go and I hope he does well. From what I am told he has it all, pace, accuracy and the ability to swing the ball.

And a quite interisting round-arm action
