When is the Test squad picked?

Would love to see O'Keefe and the young SA spinner in there fwiw.

The Press Release says 'later in July'.

Given they don't leave until 16 August, it could be as late as the last few days in July.

Or whenever Hildick can break away from his legal practice.

Doherty as the only specialist spinner is interesting on subcontinental wickets. No Ferguson seems harsh as well.

Test team is what it's all about though.

I guess - or at least I hope - Hauritz is still injured then. Wonder what this means for the Test side.

Ferg unlucky. Again.

Is there any overlap between the four-day stuff on the A tour and the one dayers in Sri Lanka?

If so, I'm quite happy Ferguson has been left out of the latter, even though I highly doubt it's for that reason.

James Pattinson is an interesting selection. With Starc returning from injury, in my view it was a shootout between the two most promising bowlers in this country (currently fit). It will be interesting if they give him a game, otherwise the experience will be valuable. I expect him to play in the Twenty20.

Good that white was dumped, but David Hussey should be outta there for Callum Ferguson.
Nah, I think David Hussey is pretty good. Its Steve Smith that should be dumped. His bowling doesn't seem to trouble anyone anymore and his batting has been pretty poor as usual.

I don't think Pattinson would be that useful either. He got bashed around by Bangladesh batsman for a while there. Clint McKay should be brought back in his place.

So you want Australia to drop a bowler based on his debut performance for another bowler who has been injured and not played a competetive game since the start of January?

I am pretty sure he is not injured anymore. And just because he hasn't played till January does it mean he should never play? Lee didn't play for like what a year but he still returned for the England series didn't he?

As for Pattionson, That's why I said I don't THINK he will do well. If he got bashed around by Bangladesh batsman I don't think he will do any better with a better class of batsmen either. If he can prove me wrong then good for him. Besides, if they were going based on just club performance I am sure there are better option than Pattionson.

Give Pattinson time. He really impressed me in the ODI he played. Bowled better than his figures, took some stick at the end when the game was long over in any meaningful sense.

James Pattinson was also the best performer of the younger bowlers in the Ryobi Cup in 2010/2011. Bowled well in the Final against Tasmania too.

The lack of any consistentcy or planning in regard to the team selection has been a concern for a while and I guess nothing much has changed despite poor Ashes and worldcup campaigns.

Now a bloke like Paine was just recently announced as the vc of the T20 side but now he has lost his place in the T20 side to a 34 year old Brad Haddin.

I personally don't rate Paine but still you can't just pick a bloke and make him the vice-captain of a side only to shun him after a couple of a games. White and Ferguson's omission from the side are also a bit baffling because its nothing short of a joke that the Australian ODI side which is supposed to be in a rebuilding phase has as many as 8 players who are either 30 or above.

Btw not surprised about Pattinson's rise through the ranks, he is genuine talent and for a guy his age he certainly can bowl at real pace add to that he generates steep bounce because of his height, though I'm not sure he has the tools right now to make an impact as a limited overs bowler.

Seems like Clarke has a back injury which may see Watson as captain now? Also why isn't Mussey in the T20 squad?

Brad Haddin's whining about being dropped from the T20 team paid off. His stats are very ordinary in that format, what is the deal with putting him back in that team?

I don't understand why senior players get what they want regardless.

I don't understand why Haddin and Paine both can't be picked at least in one of the formats. Paine is a good batsman he could help that weak middle order. He doesn't have to keep.

Paine is anything but a good batsman, yeah I agree he is a resilient batsman who can hang in there a score some handy runs (a bit like Healy) but he is hardly good enough to make it into the Australian side purely as a batsman.

Moving on Clarke's back has always been a problem right through his career and as he gets older his back condition might only get worse, the worst part about this is that Watson is the stand-by captain and regardless of how well he has been doing as a player his leadership doesn't inspire much confidence in me.

"The technology required for the DRS is currently estimated to cost $5000 per day and with the SLC having financial difficulties, the board have decided not to use the system."

So nothing to do with not wanting the system for not trusting the technology, but purely rejecting it from an economic point of view which, given their reported financial circumstances, I guess is understandable.

Paine would struggle to get into the top 15 FC batsmen in this country.
