I've just seen channel 5 coverage against Sri Lanka. England thought they bowled out a Sri Lankan player but it wasn't given by the Ref. When the tv reviewed it it looked like the ball would have hit the wicket but the commentary said the decision was correct not to give it as out. Can anyone explain why it wasn't given as out?

Hi mate, welcome to CW.

If it's the one I'm thinking of, the ball pitched outside the line of the stumps. In order to be out lbw, it needs to pitch in line (well that's the simplified version).

Is your username a Guns N Roses reference?

Think its important to point out that it cannot pitch outside leg stump. It of course can pitch outside off stump, as long as it hits them in line with the stumps (if they are playing a shot).

I did write that initially. Wasn't sure if that would be too confusing for a non-regular cricket watcher.
