Who should be India's first choice spinner?

Who should it be?

If you think we should persist with a first choice spinner in tests for the next 2 years or so, who should it be?

Of course, we may decide to play 2 spinners especially in the subcontinent, still there needs to be someone who will be our first choice there too.

Ojha's too defensive.
I could see Chawla being inconsistent.
Mishra has good control but he's not that good.
Ashwin gets good bounce but can't see him being a consistent threat.

Harbhajan is still your #1 spinner imo.

Its the second spinner who has been a problem for us. Bhajji for all his faults is still one of the best spinners in the world.

I'm Mishy's undisputed biggest fan and even I don't think he's better than Harbhajan.

I too think that Bhajji is above the rest in tests, just wanted to check how many think otherwise...good to know that there aren't many who do.

Has to be Harbhajan. Went against his entire career and actually did something outside of India in their last series and does have the small matter of 13 years and almost 400 wickets worth of Test experience behind him.

Of the other options, Chawla and Ashwin are too inexperienced at the highest level (although Chawla's played some County Cricket), Ojha has decent control but takes bugger all in the way of wickets, and Mishra has been fairly crap since his debut series vs Australia.

Ashwin, Ojha and Mishra are all quality spinners though. It's still a real area of strength for India, you'd expect any of the three to be picked for any other country bar England.

Australia would have picked all of them, dropped all of them, and tried playing Yuvraj as a specialist spinner by now.

Mishra seems to have upped his game a notch from the recent past .Let's see how he goes first in the Windies test.

Should no question be the second spinner, though at the moment.

.....would get a game right now purely because he bowls over-the-wrist. Matter of time before Cam Boyce gets a go for the same reason and then we'll really know the Aussie team has hit rock-bottom.

Regarding the topic of the thread, Harbhajan without question.

The Wheel is Forever
I never thought I'd see the day when something about the Australian cricket team would be the butt of jokes. My cricket watching (in a serious way) began probably around 1996 or 97 and they've been such a model for everything since then.
