Norwood's on Fire
I can only presume you're referring to the ODIsAnyway, I hope England don't use the lack of UDRS as an excuse when we inevitably win this summer.

It's one of those innovations that once you get used to it you wonder how on earth you lived without it.Personally speaking, my outlook towards UDRS is pretty much "can't be arsed", always has been. I can take it or leave it. Maybe I've got too used to watching cricket without it.
I appreciate that there are other viewpoints on it though, and if you want to push strongly for it, then go ahead and make your voice heard. But I can't really get on board with the argument that not having it damages Test cricket.
No. I was referring to your imaginings whereby the ECB "childishly" refuse to allow India to play at Lord's because England played at relatively obscure stadia on the last tour to India. There you go
Yeah the venues thing got a bit of coverage, not sure why given that Tests need to be spread around, and it's also going to have to happen more in England (and Wales) now than before.England played at Chennai and Mohali in the last series FTR, perfectly acceptable Test venues. Didn't know there were any objections. Though it was a terrible decision to hold a Test at Mohali given the time of the year.
I've got to say I'm immensely grateful to the English team, ECB and KP for coming back to play that series after the Mumbai attacks that year. Deserve all the credit in the world.
iirc there was some uproar from english quarters when they weren't given stadia of their choice to play when they last toured here.
well, frankly it's the prerogative of home board to decide, and while almost all indian players would love to have a go at lords, I frankly don't think they'll be gutted if ecb doesn't schedule lords test for india.
and frankly that'll only make ecb look so childish in their response to this issue. ''look u bad big bcci, no lords test for ya, boooooo'
But surely I hope your boss wouldn't exclaim of you being a ****, or being a jackass, or being a blight on the face of earth or anything like that should you decide to resume travelling by public transport. Will he?Bun, what you say about there being no UDRS till recently is of course correct.
However, when things advance, we then hold higher standards. This is the case in all walks of life.
I'm learning to drive soon. Once I pass my test, I will be driving to work. Should I mistime my drive one day and arrive late, how do you think my boss would feel if my excuse was, "well don't forget that a few months ago I was getting the train and they were unreliable all the time!"
UDRS is there now. Talking about the time before it is not a relevant argument. Prior to technology, an umpire howler was one of those things. It was annoying enough when the technology was there and we weren't using it. But the fact that the technology is in use but the ****iest board in cricket refuse to sanction it ruins the game. Surely we all want the players deciding the outcome?
The attendance at Mohali was pretty shocking when India and Australia had that humdinger match in 2010. Would definitely cut it out of the Test match rotation.Yeah, no complaints on that tour.
Don't really get the support for Mohali as a Test ground though, it just doesn't seem to get the attendance. The older, city-based grounds like Bangalore and Kolkata really ought to have more Tests these days.
+1but surely i hope your boss wouldn't exclaim of you being a ****, or being a jackass, or being a blight on the face of earth or anything like that should you decide to resume travelling by public transport. Will he?
I completely understand your logic here. I do agree, and have said it before here, i am in favor of having udrs. And it's sad bcci has opposed to its implementation, particularly having seen how refined it has become in the recent series.
My grouse is only against rather over the top comments and curses and outrages against this decision as if this has been the most heinous crime committed against cricket and the likes. There is a certain amount of protest it deserves no doubt, but as vcs said above, it's just an inconvenience in the end, a slight one imho.
The test series is going to be fine, and well contested. Cricket should take the centrestage, not silly controversies like these.
I hope you remember your final sentence if Tendulkar is incorrectly given out and India collapse to a defeat as a result. It really would be terrible if something as controversial as that overshadowed a fine Test match. But surely I hope your boss wouldn't exclaim of you being a ****, or being a jackass, or being a blight on the face of earth or anything like that should you decide to resume travelling by public transport. I knew you could make sense if you really wanted. But surely I hope your boss wouldn't exclaim of you being a ****, or being a jackass, or being a blight on the face of earth or anything like that should you decide to resume travelling by public transport. Will he?

Well that's the thing isn't it? It won't take too long for it to happen, maybe not in this coming series but soon, and when it does the pressure on the BCCI from Indian fans will be such that they'll have to agree to the UDRS being used in future.I hope you remember your final sentence if Tendulkar is incorrectly given out and India collapse to a defeat as a result. It really would be terrible if something as controversial as that overshadowed a fine Test match.
I didnt suggest ecb would, but since filbberty said anyways thought i'll give my views on possible response from the bcci side.No. I was referring to your imaginings whereby the ECB "childishly" refuse to allow India to play at Lord's because England played at relatively obscure stadia on the last tour to India.
haha thx back to heel gimmick nowI knew you could make sense if you really wanted.
Should post like this more often, Bun. Don't necessarily agree but a good post.
Live by the sword and end by it. I really wish Ashocker De Silva would be umpiring this series so that **** ups like you mentioned would happen, and babuCCI would wake up finally to 2011, realize they are yelling at non existent clouds, and finally embrace the UDRS. I would though love that to happen in the final test when we are leading 3-0 and hopefully Sachin denied in his quest for his 103rd international hundred.I hope you remember your final sentence if Tendulkar is incorrectly given out and India collapse to a defeat as a result. It really would be terrible if something as controversial as that overshadowed a fine Test match.
IIRC weren't there a few moans about the ODI schedule because it seemed to lack logical sense in terms of cross country journeys between matches?England played at Chennai and Mohali in the last series FTR, perfectly acceptable Test venues. Would mean like abt a max 1 hour extra flight time perhaps.IIRC weren't there a few moans about the ODI schedule because it seemed to lack logical sense in terms of cross country journeys between matches?
Funny you should mention Eden Gardens, on a show today talking about this situation about how many Tests are played at Lords and the ever increasing Test grounds in England, it was mentioned that England haven't played at Eden Gardens since '91 or '92. Which considering it's the most famous Indian ground and probably the one the players want to play at most, is quite remarkable.Couldn't care less where they hold the Tests. Since I'm not the one attending, all I care is that the matches are good contests (and India win ). India don't host all visiting teams at Eden Gardens and Chennai in every tour, in any case.
