Champions League 20/20 may require qualification for some sides

That's over a third of the teams we've seen play for 2+ months play each other again in another league.

Come on now Bun, even you know this is oversaturation.
No denying it... not at all...

But it is preposterous to see this CLT anything more than an extension of the IPL....

as long as India generates more than 80% of revenue and eyeballs, it got to have more of India, ie IPL.. sad but true,.,,

which is why I am asking for an IPL - CLT merger... with mutiple seasons scheduled across the southern hemisphere and indian SC...

More importantly, the idea of the audience getting to dictate who should get to compete and win, is frankly, risible, and goes against the very concept of fairness in sport.

Not really...

kabbadi is not an olympic sport because the audience for it is limited, primarily....

Then when fans from other countries vent their frustrations there's no point reminding them that India generates 80% of the revenue all the time, or that they have the eyeballs. They know that, but they're still allowed to claim its unfair.

Indeed. I would also say that Indian fans, being the majority voice, have a responsibility to uphold to everyone else by looking out for the long-term interest of the sport. It's important for them to speak out in cases like this, and the exclusion of the associates from the 2015 WC.

including democracy...

Democracy doesn't say anything about marginalizing, and ultimately taking away the opportunities of the minority, quite the opposite in fact.

Democracy would allow all the cricket boards a fair representation in the Champions League, this is anything but. If they want it to be fair all the teams would have to go through a qualification kinda like the real Champions League in soccer and if IPL teams are good enough they will win the trophy.

It's bad enough players have to represent IPL over their original teams. If this is how it goes pretty soon CL will be another "season" of IPL.

Democracy doesn't ignore the issue of population weightage though...

ultimately an Indian = an Australian/Englishman/any other guy...

Am not arguing for CLT or anything... I find it illogical in a world where 4/5th is controlled by one country...

stop this farce, nobody cares a **** about it, and instead concentrate on working on the populace that gives it a bit of attention...

IMHO population doesn't matter in a Democracy. For example in the US, Whites constitute 72%, Blacks 12.5% and Asians 5%, a vote from a white person does not weigh more then the other races, its all equal even though they contribute considerably to the economy due to their population.

The same should be the case in cricket, granted BCCI is rich and Indians constitute 75% of cricket fans, it shouldn't give BCCI more rights or power to make decision based only on their interest.

That's what I thought too, but apparently that's not true.

Incidentally this is why pure democracy is an absolutely rubbish idea.

I see they are following the Uefa Champions league model now.

Don't like it though in this case,as the fun of the CLT20 (whatever it has) is to have the top teams from all round the world the compete.

By getting more IPL teams in to make money for them, will only make it somewhat one dimensional.

Kabaddi would have probably been a olympic sport had it been popular in US rather than India ,tbh.

And Had India more money power in the FIH ,Field Hockey would not have shifter to Astro Turf from Grass and Off side rule would not have been abolished.

Yes it's not fair to the likes of Wayamba, CD etc. But who would the Indian public and TV audiences want to see an utterly dire Wayamba or KKR?? Go figure

It's a tournament run by BCCI, CA and CSA so I don't see a reason why they would not want to have the best. The other teams are by invitation only, So yes it's not fair to change the rules in the middle. Hey if you don't like it you can switch the channel or better yet boycott the tournament, That seems to be the attitude of BCCI.

However if the qualifiers are part of the CLT. I don't see what the fuss is about.

Classic case of "Make hay while the sun shines" ... When in the 70's and 80's Australia and England wielded the power, They marginalised the sub continental teams and now it's the turn of the sub continental teams to do that since they have the power.

Is it wrong? Yes. But what can you do about it.
