Test XI: born overseas

OK quite a straightforward one here. Pick an all-time Test XI made up of players who were born in one country and who played for another. WI count as one country, and pre- and post-partition issues in the Sub-Continent don't count. Doesn't matter if the player also played for the country of his birth provided he played Tests for a different country.

1. Charles Bannerman
2. Kepler Wessels
3. Ted Dexter (c)
4. Ranji
5. Kevin Pietersen
6. Archie Jackson
7. Tony Grieg
8. Billy Murdoch (w)
9. Gubby Allen
10. JJ Ferris
11. Clarrie Grimmett

12. Reggie Schwarz

Might pick an NZ team from guys born outside NZ.

1. Lou Vincent
2.
3. Mathew Sinclair
4. Scott Styris
5.
6. Grant Elliott
7. Sam Guillen
8. Dipak Patel
9. Tom Puna
10.
11. Heath Davis (says he was born in Wellington, but clearly he was born on a different planet)

Struggling to fill a few gaps and cbf going too far back through the test players list.

Hanif Mohammad was born in india before partition if it counts in gujarat(which is in india now).

So were Mushtaq Mohammad and Intikhab Alam.

Colin Cowdrey was born in India too.

edit- Just saw pre and post partition issues don't count. SO i guess that discounts the first 3.

Yep.

Hussain too. Though i doubt he would make it to the team.

England can really make a very good team only by itself of the foreign born players it has had.
I guess it is to do with its colonial past.

Strauss could though .

Ted Dexter would be a decent shout who was born in milan, italy.

Prior,Ambrose,Jones,Kieswetter almost all english keepers are foreign born too.

You could almost put together an XI from guys born in SA but played for England.

1. Strauss
2. C. Smith
3. Trott
4. KP
5. R. Smith
6. Lamb
7. D'Oliveira
8. Greig
9. Prior

Bowlers anyone?

Trying to do the same for guys born in the WI who played for England, you get the opposite situation. Only a couple of batsmen (Wilf Slack and Roland Butcher) but loads of bowlers: Malcolm, De Freitas, Cowans, Williams, Benjamin, Lewis & Small. At least I think they were all born in the WI. I think Alex Tudor was born in England.

Vincent was actually born in New Zealand; he just grew up in Adelaide.

Bannerman getting a run is awesome.

Furball

Evil Scotsman
Strauss
Trott
Hussein
Hick
Pietersen
Prior
GO Jones
de Frietas
Caddick
SP Jones
Amjad Khan

There's a reasonably recent England Test XI consisting of players not born in England (admittedly I'm pushing it with Simon Jones)
