Life or Death: Mixed team to play Marauding Martians

Who would make your team to play a group of matches - 1 Test on any surface, 1 ODI, 1 20-20 - againt the Martians? Destruction of the Earth at stake if a loss in any of the formats were to occur.

It has to be the same XI for all the matches.

And leaving out Bradman or Sobers because they haven't played ODIs or 20-20 (Sobers played only one, I believe) would be suicide!

Good luck!

S Ganguly
D Jardine
G Chappel
M Azharuddin
A Ranatunga
H Cronje
K Akmal
H Larwood
T Chappel
S Akhtar
M Asif

Umpire: Steve Bucknor

Coach: Ijaz Butt

Plan:

1) Put out XI that will inevitably cause some political dispute
2) Nuke 'em from orbit. It's the only way to be sure

Tendulkar
Greenidge
Hayden
Bradman
Richards
Sobers
Gilchrist
Akram
Hadlee
McGrath
Murali

Picked Hayden because I need him to open in Tests alongside Greenidge, where Tendulkar doesn't open. Interesting exercise this.

Why would you play any spinners? You'd think the Martian XI would be pretty good at playing on dusty surfaces.

I think our best chance is to produce a green wicket. Perhaps we should play in England where the constant piss poor weather would actually be good for once

Fairly harsh on Asif. You'd think he'd done enough to earn selection for once.

Haha, I actually included him but only put 10 players up, for some reason.

To show the Martians that they shouldn't have ****ed around with us I suggest we give Roy Gilchrist a gig.

Problem is same team for 3 formats so allrounders can't be ignored.

Mixed XI

First lets isolate absolute musthaves

Bradman
Sobers
Richards
Tendulkar
Gilchrist

Warne
Akram
Mcgrath

Then marshall for me
Imran for balance and fifth strike bowler.

Tendulkar and gilchrist open in odis and t20.
Main problem is opener for tests i'll go hayden since he's relevant in all formats.

Hayden and gilchrist open in tests,bradman 3rd sachin 4rth,richards 5th,sobers 6,imran 7,marshall 8,wasim 9,warne 10.mcgrath 11.

So final XI

Batsmen -

Bradman
Tendulkar
Richards
Hayden

Allrounders -

Imran[c]
Gilchrist[wk]
Sobers

Bowlers-

Marshall
Wasim
Warne
Mcgrath

Ground - The WACA ,perth since bowling attack is pace based and all batsmen are excellent players of fast bowling except hayden[swing] maybe but thats less of a concern in odis and t20s,plus its his home country so waca.

Scenario 2 -

Ground - Firoz shah kotla dustbowl,or wankhede mumbai dustbowl or premedasa sticky minefield.

Team

Sehwag for hayden.[home conditions,no swing]
Kumble and murali in for marshall and mcgrath.
Wasim and imran stay because of ability to use reverse swing with old ball and familiarity with subcontinent conditions.

If seperate teams for formats

ODIS

Tendulkar
Gilchrist
Ponting
Lara
Richards
Bevan
Imran[c]
Garner
Akram
Warne
Mcgrath

Tests

Len hutton
Sunil gavaskar
Don Bradman[C]
Sachin Tendulkar
Viv richards
Sobers
Gilchrist.[wk]
Warne
Marshall
Ambrose
Akram

12th man-D.lillee

Akram over lillee due to deadlier old ball with reverse swing.
Ambrose and marshall walk into test sides imo.

No coach. Can't see anyone telling these guys what to do.

If finding someone to open in both formats is an issue, how about Jayasuria? Plus he'd solve balance issues in ODIs.

Or, going a little out there, Barry Richards?
