    History of ODI Uniforms

    Sup,

    Due to lack of my non-statistical knowledge in cricket prior to late 90s, I can't stop wondering how the uniform colours for each team were decided.
    Usually one would think, like me, that there would be some connection to the colours in the flag. For some it is, but for some it isn't.

    India - Blue - Blue disc/chakra
    Pakistan - Green - Green background
    England - Blue - Blue background
    SF - Green - Green "Y"
    WI - Maroon - Maroon in background

    SL - Blue - No blue in flag
    Aus - Green+Yellow - Not even close
    NZ - Gray+Black - Ditto

    Enlighten me
    Greatest Test XI::: S Gavaskar, M Hayden, D Bradman*, S Tendulkar, A Border, G Sobers, A Gilchrist, I Khan, S Warne, M Marshall, G McGrath
    Reserves: B Richards, V Richards, A Knott, M Muralitharan

    Greatest ODI XI::: A Gilchrist, S Tendulkar, R Ponting*, V Richards, M Dhoni, M Bevan, S Pollock, W Akram, S Warne, J Garner, M Muralitharan, A Donald
    Reserves: A deVilliars, B Lara, R Hadlee, S Warne

    I have no idea which came first, been green/yellow/gold are the national sporting colours here.

    NZ is similar in that their national sporting colours are black. Probably to do with the fact their rugby team is the All Blacks, and just sort of became representative of sport in NZ as a whole. Possibly happened here.

    I miss the uniforms with similar themes, but different colors, a la WC '92 and '96. Should never have got rid of that idea.

    No connection to the flag AFAIK, but green and gold is used for all SA sporting teams..

    They didnt get rid of it per se, but I think teams are now obliged to turn out whatever their kit sponsor wants them to wear, hence the change
