Roy Fredericks was an incredible puller.

Sanga plays the best cover drive and straight drive I've seen.

Ponting's pulling and driving too is a a thing of beauty.

Tendulkar's improvised shots against the short ball are awesome.

Burgey : Good point about the Waugh cut/drive. He used to generate a lot of power with that little shuffle to the offstump really allowing him to lean into it.

Nasser Hussain also used to play a mean square cut, IIRC.
Verily though, all square cutters doth bow down to Gordon Greenidge.

I remember Martin Crowe creaming himself over Yousuf's cover drive a while back. Thing of perfection at times. I always liked watching Martyn as well.

Cover drive= the one knee CD by Kim Hughes

Cut = John Dyson, can still see it a thing of beauty although Gordon G hit it harder then any man I can remember.

Late cut= Stan McCabe not that I watched in live but Tiger said it was the best ever and I will go with him

Straight drive = Viv Richards, I can still see Dickie Bird holding out his white handkerchief in surrender. Merv Hughes said when Viv was in top gear he felt scared running into bowl

Text book for every shot = Greg Chappell:cool:

Too many Aussies on my list:unsure:

My favourite 2 shots of all time are the Vaughan coverdrive and the Robin Smith squarecut. Complete contrast in style as one was stylish and elegant the other was just awesome brute force.

If I could have any shot it would be the Ponting Pull shot. Exquisite, exaggerated and effective. Will never get tired of it. Ironically don't think much about his other shots, although he has a nice cover drive from time to time.

I'm not sure why people think Laxman has a great coverdrive.. he's awesome to watch but a textbook coverdrive is the last thing that comes to mind when I think of him. Plays it well against spinners, but he doesn't get his front foot forward quick enough to the pace bowlers.
