That will certainly help dressing room bonding.

Seriously, this makes no sense..
“He’s probably more talented than KP. Kevin finds it so easy to play, he’s so naturally gifted with the shots he’s got, and Cookie’s not got that. He relies on the shots he has got and he relies on his mental toughness to get him through and he’s shown how *talented he is this trip.”
Does he have a different definition of "talent" from the rest of the world?

As I said in the Colly tribute thread, don't confuse "talent" with "style". Succeeding despite having relatively poor strokeplay is a talent.

Cook was basically Anderson's batting coach for quite a while (I think they called him a batting "buddy"), so there's probably some playful ribbing there.

Talent means the skill that someone has quite naturally to do something that is hard. Someone who has talent is able to do something without trying hard. It is an ability that someone is born with.

Isn't it the two of them that look after the ball as well?

Definitely something going on between them...

A contradiction tbh, isn't he effectively saying KP is more naturally talented?

Here's the quote...

Isn't that the mental strength and application that he alludes to? Working around your limitations is certainly an attribute that any batsman, hell, any successful sportsman needs to get to the top. Some just have fewer limitations than others.

Cook is a very good player who had a series where he overachieved and no KP is light years ahead in terns of natural talent Cook disciplined was outstanding this series.

Wonder what KP thinks of it though...
The point I was making was that KP probably doesn't take it seriously at all, because Jimmy probably spruiks Cook light-heartedly all the time amongst the batting group.

Agree with PEWS here. Cook, as is obvious to even casual observers, doesn't have KP's range of shot, barely hits a ball down the ground for instance.

What he has in spades is discipline and determination. Now he's totally sure where his off stump is he's also (mostly) ignored the balls slanted across him he used to consistently nick behind. Ironically his dismissal at the SCG was "Cook's outs 101", but as he's made 189 at the time one's minded to look past it.

KP's only rival in our XI for the "natural batting ability" stakes is Bell IMHO.
