I'll say it - I want Bailey to get a golden duck. Not so much because I hate him, but the reaction from the crowd, press, on here etc would just be so amazing

#cricket If age doesn't matter by picking Hogg at 40 why was Katich sacked at 36 when he was the best performed batsman in Test cricket?

#cricket Bad sign for Mike Hussey not in T20 squad. Adelaide could be the end.

I'll say it - I want Hogg to go for 50 off 3 overs. Because I dislike him.
While I'm not a fan by any means, I like the return of the un-retired former star but done properly. Not like Warne in the IPL or BBL, but actually coming back and making yourself reavailable for Internationals.
Does smart a bit that age obviously isn't that big an issue yet Katich and Hodge (previously) were repeatedly overlooked.

Can't believe Hogg was actually chosen. Awesome.

And that Mike Hussey comment makes zero sense. He hasn't been chosen in Aussie T20 Squads for years now.

Haha, true. Hadn't realised. Is a bit bizarre then.
Can only think it's because Mussey came out and said he wanted to go to the WC didn't he?

white is the mole obvz

hussey doesn't matter. iirc he pretty much didn't get picked at all before the last t20 wc where of course.... he's still in contention for the WC, and they certainly won't sack him after this test. if only because there's no break. it's much easier to sack someone if there's a 5 month break between in series' (ala katich) than a two week break...After the WI tour he might be in trouble.

I'd like Wade or maybe even Christian to open for these matches. Not because I reckon they'd do a great job or anything. But because Watson is the opener, which is great because he's great at it, but having an all-rounder opening means instead of some bit part all-rounder at 5/6, you need a specialist batsman at 5/6. Which, at least in aus, is a bit of a rarity in T20 cricket. And it just so happens to be a pretty hard role to fulfil. you can come in a lot of different situations (eg 3/20 in the power play, or 3/120 with the bowlers not even trying to get you out, just keeping you to singles) so you need a bit of flexibility in your game. Just doing some thinking, once Watson is in the team Bailey could be coming in at 6. So right at the death most of the time, may as well test him now and see if he's got it. (big ben rohrer has got it, ftr)

I have to say, I'm actually really excited about this squad. Picking Hogg shows that our new NSP are all about picking the best XI, not getting carried away about phasing out old people. Really hope he gets a game over Doherty, he's heads and tales better right now.

Not quite sure about Bailey as captain though. As a Tasmanian I am thrilled to see him finally get a go for Australia, but surely Maddinson, Quiney, even North have shown more with the bat over the BBL to deserve a spot in the side? I guess he's there as a semi-specialist captain.

SOK must really be getting around and putting it into every selectors daughter/wife. No problem at all bringing George into the side, but why drop SOK for X? I just don't get it? He's not more economical, he doesn't take more wickets, he certainly isn't a better fielder, and there's no way known that you could promote him to open and get a decent 30 out of him. There must be some sort of Tasmanian quota in operation. Can be the only reason him and Bailey are in.

Feel a bit dirty saying it but Beer must've been close to selection

Also, why wasnt Starc picked? Has to be a better option than McKay (dont know why but all those crappy slow balls really **** me and he cant hit)

The only thing I don't like about Bailey's selection is that he didn't captain in this Big Bash League. I agree with Inverarity that on-field captaincy is critical in T20's which is why I find it strange that he's gone for someone who hasn't performed in that role in this tournament.

I suppose, if anything, it is fair recognition how well Tasmanian cricket has done in recent seasons. I also can't imagine George and White both playing for the Stars next BBL season as it would mean one of them missing out on the captaincy.

Other than that I don't particularly mind the squad that's been picked. Rob Quiney was possibly a touch unlucky, but I'm delighted they didn't select the specialist fielder Steve Smith.

Rob Quiney not really unlucky either. It's just the reality of T20 that of the 10 best performed batsmen, 8/9 are gonna be openers/3. there's only so many you can pick and you can hardly pick the 5th best opener and play him at 6 because it's just a totally different situation.

the fact quiney also has a pretty sucky record over a long time comes into it too
