Easy to say now of course. Pacers are still iffy. Angelo, Kohli, Amla, Rahane all unlucky.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
Picking Kallis/Sanga goes completely against the point. You wouldn't pick Viv Richards in a team of the 1990s

At least Younis is still playing but surely you expect he'll be outscored comfortably by 2020 by Williamson or someone.
I may or may not have just skipped over your post entirely and picked the best side of the decade so far tbh.

In the wake of cricinfo's all-time world XI, I got thinking about who the next decade's XI is going to be. Let's assume, for now, that said players have already played more than a handful of matches and are young enough to play for another 8-10 years. I've considered all formats but have unfairly weighted it towards Tests.

WARNING: The following article may contain gratuitous speculation by an amateur England fan and will contain bias.

1) Tamim Iqbal (21)
batting like a combination of Sehwag and Harmison
Eclipsed by another Sehwag and Harmison combine in David Warner but solid call

2) Alistair Cook (25)
never underestimate the ability to make the opposition lose the will to live
Amen

3) Hashim Amla (c)(27)
harder to separate from the crease then his beard is from his face.
Once too true and still fighting

4) Ross Taylor (26)
don't be too hard on Ross
Okay

5) AB De Villiers (wk) (26)
questionable pop singer
Unquestionably

6) Suresh Raina (23)
carries a bit of pudding
Pudding popped

7) Shakib Al Hasan (23)
remember what Shakib was doing
Being Superman

8) Stuart Broad (24)
lad with real skill
Everything came together, even the hair

9) Dale Steyn (27)
Miles ahead
Touche

10) Umar Gul (26)
Ok, then
Yeah, agreed

11) Ajantha Mendis (25)
there's not much Mendis can do
Spot on
Howe with a splendid effort - 6.9/9.6

I'll have a go and will probably fall well wide of the mark.

Tamim
Hughes (despite my doubts over the short ball his current first class average shows he has talent)
Amla
de Villiers +
Taylor (will score rucks of runs for England)
Williamson
Adil Rashid
Shakib *
Broad
Finn
Aamer (in the hope a fine talent isn't banned and doesn't repeat his stupidity)
Probably more hits than misses there and a couple of very sad ones too.

Jimmy Anderson and Rangana Herath the leading wicket takers 3/4 of the way through the decade. Think we underestimated the staying power of both.

Went primarily for the top run scorers and top wicket takers with the exception of Dale Steyn who had the lowest bowling average by a mile.

Very tempted to include Sangakkara because he was the only batsman with a 60+ average, but wanted to favour players still playing.

This team pretty much picks itself I reckon except for the toss-up between Herath and Ashwin. Went for Herath due to his Underwood like ability to run through a side when the pitch suits.

If you want to include an allrounder then the only player of note with a 40+ batting average and a bowling average of < 35 since 2010 is Shakib al Hasan (44.29 and 33.77).

I’d probably swap Herath for Ashwin to strengthen the tail and add more variety.

By 2020 people will laugh at the idea of includin anyone outside of the fab four from 3-6

On the subcontinent you would bring in Herath or Ashwin for Philander. In England you'd bring in Anderson over Johnson.

Probably true, but I also think these 4 will have lept ahead of the chasing pack statistically by then. KW might be hurt by a lack of matches though
We've been predicting this for ages though. Amla etc yet to fall away and the decade's more than 75% over.

I reckon by 2020 the fab 4 are gong to have just as much difference between each other as they do to a few other batsmen (is the gap between Kohli and Pujara, for example, really bigger than the gap between Kohli and Smith?), but CW will probably be one of few places to bring this up while professionals just pick the fab 4 because it's obvious and because meme value. Or because what they're really doing is picking an all-formats XI like I used to like to do.

The exception will be Gob who will pick Virat-Vaughan-Amla for meme value.

All four are now entering their prime years. Person I think the four will be well ahead in the 100s column for the decade by 2020, even that non converting Root

Averages too if you feel 100s are a poor measurement. We will see I guess

I mean this gets thrown around a lot, but everyone actually seems to rate and pick him.
