No full South Africa tour of Australia until 2021

So this long winded debacle finally ends, about time. Back in 2001 Sa were whinging about it. SA get such poor crowds to most tests, they were never going to convince the Aus board to go to SA for a Boxing Day test, ludicrous suggestion. Every season SA hosts their own boxing day/new years tests (apart from they tour here) and they get poor crowds, having Australia there wont help. Hell no-one showed up last year for the return series after SA actually beat Aus in Aus!! If that didnt get people showing up nothing will.

Yeah there's no way CA will give away their boxing day and NY's tests. They're the most popular.

Hope SA does well to pull crowds for those tests now...seems like an attractive deal for them to be so aggressive...

They did for the first test but like the Australian fans that didn't show up on the last day of the Perth/Melbourne tests (just chicken runners in the ground), they are fair weather. Cape Town tests usually draw good crowds mind.

Good stuff from CSA. :)

Whatever it takes!!!
yeah.. at least CA could have tried going there once during the festive season and then respond.. But this split tour thing works well for India/Australia, why not with SA?

Ah the normal kneejerk Aussie reaction when the possibility of giving up the Boxing Day test is mooted.

The facts are that SA got ptreyy reasonable crowds for the return Aussie tour despite the games being played in February (not a great time in SA to pull crowds)

Another enduring myth is the tradition of the Boxing Day test. In cricketing terms this is a fairly new innovation and it wasn't all that long ago that CA replaced it with an ODI>

1989 was the last time an odi was scheduled for boxing day, due to problems with Pakistan and their board. Nothing to do with tradition waning etc.

If South Africa dont want to come here at that time then thats their right, doesnt make a whole lotta difference. We'll play them at the gabba now i guess early season.

The fact is SA dont pull reasonable crowds at any time of the year consistently. We have great crowds for most tests almost every year, especially in the boxing day/new year period.

Well yes, but thats not going to happen now is it? We dont have the room to host 5 tests v SA, do SA have room to host us for 5 tests, and do we have the time to go there for 5 tests in September? No way.

Well that's my point. The only way is to play over Xmas and New Year. SA originally proposed this but CA are not prepared to give up the festive period every 7 years or so.

There's no point just having one 5 match series every 7 years, only in one country, it has to be regular. Neither team has the time to do it every few years. I dont see anything wrong with the new agreement, means we'll play each other more often, shorter tours. Players would be happy.

I guess this means now that every four years we'll have a lesser team playing in our festive period, been a long time since WI or NZ played then, more than 20 years for NZ.

Wouldn't b e every seven years. Obviously rotated it would be every 3 years. Most cricket fans would prefer a 5 match series to 2/3 match series.

Why would players be happier. Ashes are normally played over 5, right?
