Michael Clarke's captaincy

I'm not a fan of his bowling but Smith definitely has partnership-breaker status so he definitely should've had a go at Mathews/Malinga.

To an extent, yes. Bowling Smith more might have covered for Johnson but if he didn't bowl Siddle, all he had was Hastings and Watson to make up the short-fall. Not a lot to work with and if he'd bowled those two and they got smashed, he'd have been bollocked way more than he will here for not using the designated specialists. Can't win.

To be fair to .. myself ... I was calling it at the time, though. Lots were. It's not like I'm just saying it in hindsight.

Holy crap, what a game! Kudos Sri Lanka! That was awesome.

Another nail in the Clarke-captaincy-coffin perhaps?

Clarke at least seems gutted. Smith was injured according to Pup. Asking Nicholas for advice.

Maybe but if you need a bit of a freak wicket, I'd back Johnson in more so than Smith even notwithstanding Clarke's just announced back complaint.

There's not really a way to escape that Siddle and Johnson bowled plenty of stuff in their half to tail-enders on the mow. Were bowling for the top-edge, out, see ya Charlie but didn't get it then didn't know what else to do. Considering they were his only specialist bowlers, I reckon he deserves a bit of lattitude. He certainly didn't lose Australia the game, the batting did.

Don't know - he didn't try to spin what was an indefensible performance. Was pretty honest I thought.

How so? What realistically could he have done? Limited options. Games like tonight show how keenly Symonds is missed as a spinning allrounder.

Thought he needed a long off/long on IMO. But apart from that, what can he do when two of our bowlers bowl like my school team

What? Of course he is.

He screwed the whole game up for Australia so he took the responsibility to bowl the last (or what seemed to be) over. Like a captain sinking with the ship.

Ugh... dead captain but still a captain

Just dont like his attitude. When Kim Hughes gave interviews when we were losing he might have looked like a kid but he talked old, and he looked like the defeat hurt. Clarke just doesnt look like it hurts enough when we lose, in my humble opinion. Contrast that with Punter, man he looks ANGRY when we lose, really bloody angry. Love it.

I remember when Ponting became odi captain he really fired up Lee, who was becoming expensive. Clarke should fire up Johnson.

Were you watching the same interview as me? Guy looked like someone had kicked him in the stomach and spat on him.

Definitely not his finest captaincy night but, what can he do? Basically asked everyone who could bowl to bowl, and it's not his fault they bowled absolute trash. Ironic that the best advice possible was probably that given by Mark Nicholas - bowl yourself.

Definately feel the Clarke/Hughes comparison. I don't think he used his bowlers well tonight, but to be fair, he wasn't given many good ones.
