*Official* New Zealand in India 2010

Days of Grace

International Captain
The big difference is Segwag and Zaheer opening up the batting and bowling and both being world-class at their respective disciplines. Something that India has arguably never had before.

Harbhajan only had that one great series in 2001; he has been mediocre ever since with a sporadic noteworthy match here and there.
Harbhajan took 177 wickets @26.8 SR 59, 15 fifers, 3 10ers in the 37 tests he played for Ganguly. He has only 2 Fifers under Dhoni in 20 test matches. Clearly suggesting that Bhajji isn't the bowler he was under Ganguly.

Zaheer Khan under MS Dhoni has been a much better bowler than he was under Ganguly; Srinath was at the fag end of his career. Kumble, yes, made a difference.
Zaheer has been good, Harbhajan has been much worse. And not having Kumble is a huge huge disadvantage at home.

And India was a relatively weak side back then, relative to the rest that is. That is not the case now. I don't see how that is denying Dhoni credit for his success ?
India didn't have a weak side, we were pretty good. Check how we played against Australia. We were inconsistent.

Lastly, I would agree that MS Dhoni has not surpassed Sourav Ganguly as an ODI captain, but he has done enough to warrant a comparison. To quote an earlier post of mine from another thread :
He is not even close to Sourav in ODIs, in Tests he has already surpassed Sourav .

Kumble was instrumental in home wins, but however other sides are pretty weak now without their key players. Ganguly had to captain the team against tougher oppositions. And it was under him India started winning away matches. IIRC Kumble didn't even play in many overseas matches under ganguly.

And the kind of ultra defensive field Dhoni sets, no wonder why spinners have a ****ty record under him.

We've done SRT a favour here. His 50th century will be a lot more meaningful and memorable if it comes in a battle between the world's top two cricketing nations, than if it had been made against an impotent bowling lineup on a flat track.

McKay really deserved that wicket. Easily the best of the Kiwi bowlers this innings.
He would be a perfect replacement for Martin, imo.

MARTO!!! He's bowled much better this morning, good reward. 11 to go, and probably 46 wickets remaining to take them in.
