Despite the redoubtable Constantine, my team so far arguably a bit light on for West Indian flair, so for my last selection I'll take Clifford Roach. Played in the Windies first test, scored the Windies first century and then later it's first double century.

V. Trumper
H. Sutcliffe
C. Hill
C.B. Fry
W. Armstrong*
C. Roach
L. Constantine
B. Barnes
B. Bates
B. Whitty
H. Strudwick+

Phenomenal batting line-up.

KS Duleepshinji
CP Mead
Tip Foster*
Charles Bannerman
George Ulyett
Jack Blackham+

I'm gonna vote for you just because you picked my uncle. Easy way to get a vote. :p

State Vice-Captain
Really tough choice this. I should be picking a fast bowler, but how often do you get to say your side has over 12000 first class wickets? JT "Old Jack" Hearne. Possessor of the 4th highest tally of first class wickets and the first hat trick against Australia.

1.Vijay Merchant 859 runs @ 47.72
2.Bill Brown 1592 runs @ 46.82
3.W.G.Grace 1098 runs @ 32.29 , 9 wickets @ 26.22
4.Patsy Hendren 3525 runs @ 47.63
5.Tom Hayward 1999 runs @ 34.46
6.Monty Noble* 1997 runs @ 30.25 , 121 wickets @ 25
7.Billy Murdoch+ 908 runs @ 31.31 , 14 catches 1 stumping
8.George Hirst 790 runs @ 22.57 , 59 wickets @ 30
9.Hugh Trumble 851 runs @ 19.79 , 141 wickets @ 21.78
10.Bobby Peel 471 runs @ 14.72 , 101 wickets @ 16.98
11.Jack Hearne 126 runs @ 9.00 , 49 wickets @ 22.08

Who need pace? I'll defeat you with spin, cutters and an awesome batting line-up

Good choice - I flirted with the idea of picking him around round 8. "Young Jack" too.

.... and then there was one

I don't have a keeper - Mr Z selected Dick Lilley, who had been my first thought, and then for a long time I was undecided between Tiger Smith and West Indian Ivan Barrow, but then I decided to strengthen my batting and my legal team - and if my magnificent attack struggles to dismiss anyones batting line up then he can always be called upon to do what he did at the Oval in 1884 when, after Australia got to around 500 for 6, he came on to bowl his lobs, without bothering to take off his pads, and took the last four wickets for 19 :)

OK - I'm assuming this is pre war grounds?

So I'm going for that batsman's paradise at the Oval - my top 8 will make thousands of runs and while the opposition will get a few too it's Tom Richardson's home ground and Arthur Mailey will get turn anywhere

Matsag's Bluepies:
Victor Trumper (3163 @ 39.04, 8 centuries)
Herbert Sutcliffe (4555 @ 60.73, 16 centuries)
Clem Hill (3412 @ 39.21, 7 centuries)
C.B. Fry (1223 @ 32.18, 2 centuries)
Warwick Armstrong* (LG) (2863 @ 38.68, 6 centuries. 87 wickets @ 33.59, 3 five-fers)
Clifford Roach (952 @ 30.70, 2 centuries).
Billy Barnes (RFM) (725 @ 23.38, 1 century. 51 wickets @ 15.54, 3 five-fers)
Baron Learie Constantine (RF) (635 @ 19.24. 58 wickets @ 30.10, 2 five-fers)
Billy Bates (OS) (656 @ 27.33. 50 wickets @ 16.42, 4 five-fers)
Bill Whitty (LFM) (161 @ 13.41. 65 wickets @ 21.12, 3 five-fers)
H. Strudwick+ (230 @ 7.93)

Home Ground: The mighty MCG.

Bats down to nine. Worth noting that as with so many of these players, Constantine's abilities are much better demonstrated in his FC record, rather than his small sample of tests - 4475 runs @ 24.05, 439 wickets @ 20.48. Bowling attack featuring right and left arm pace bowling, an off-spinner and a leg spinner. Strudwick a silken keeper, albeit it the batting bunny of the team.
