Assuming everyone is fully fit and in form the Indian line up would be:

1)Sehwag
2)Tendulkar
3)Gambhir
4)Yuvraj
5)MS Dhoni
6)S Raina
7)Robin Uttappa
8)Harbajan Singh
9)Zaheer Khan
10)Praveen Kumar / Ishant Sharma
11)Ashish Nehra

I realize that Uttappa hasn't played an ODI in over 2 years but I really feel he is perfect for the finisher's role. He has a wide range of shots and can go big anytime. Also unlike Yusuf Pathan he doesn't struggle with the pull shot, if anything I would say he is one of the better players of short bowling (in terms of scoring off it) in India.

I wrote all their names in the also-in-the-run category. They're all in the run for a place in the playing XI for WC2011. But none of them should be certain of their places based on current form and class.

Yuvraj, not a certainty based on form; but one of the contenders for that no. 5 spot, surely.

Yusuf, same for no. 7 spot. Irfan too, specially if we are playing 2 specialist spinners (Harbhajan, Ojha).

Nehra looks good at the moment, certainly one among the better contenders for the 4th bowler slot, but not a certainty especially given the fact that WC 2011 is gonna take place in the subcontinent (so there's a good case for playing 2 specialist spinners).

He is gutsy and gritty, doesn't scream talent at all IMO. Could be a good solid player for India, but not one that will pull off the spectacular.

Disagree.

He is better than probably Rohit and Certainly Vijay but ,does not have the game changing ability of a rohit.

Besides i rate Pujara,Raina And even Pandey somewhat ahead of him.
I'm a huge Rohit fan, but Sehwag has more game changing ability than Tendulkar. Doesn't necessarily make him the better batsman.

Lol @ Pandey though. The guy couldn't handle the ball moving one bit in the latter stages of the IPL. To say he's better than a guy with a ODI hundred when his team was in trouble is a bit much.
Reckon Pandey is a pretty ordinary cricketer, to be honest. I'd be really surprised if he ever performs well in international cricket.
After watching Pandey again, I still have the same opinion. Not convinced at all.

Really find his footwork awful, particularly with the moving ball. Sehwag may not move his feet but his bat comes straight when necessary and his head is still. Pandey looked at sea vs Albie with the ball doing a bit.

And he looks awful with my man Kohli on the other end oozing ***yness.
But ultimately Pandey top scored with 52 and Kohli got out tamely for 14 .
For the BRC only Pandey put up a fight and the reason Pandey looks awkward in the IPL is because in a T20 game he is always looking to manufacture forced shots(which he is good at too) while in First class cricket he looks more steady.

Besides Looking good is only part of the package, ultimately it is the effectiveness that matters.Dhoni being top ODI batsmen for a long period now shows that .
Both Vijay and Kohli, look good while batting but if i were to be picking for the test team at the moment i would pick Pandey and Badri ahead of them, also Pujara and Raina.

Kohli got out because he was trying to win tbh, and he hurt his back. Bit harsh claiming Pandey played better when because of Pandeys inability to hit the moving ball in the first 4 overs, kohli had to walk in with a required rate of 12.

To claim Pandey was good last night is ludicrous. Hope he proves me wrong, and he may very well do so. But Kohli is so clearly ahead in terms of a ODI slot.

Panday looks quite mediocre will do well on sub cont pancakes while Kohli is just awesome all the way.10000+ runs minimum.

Whatever it takes!!!
Kohli to be our regular #3 after Dravid, tbh...

And Badri should be backing him up at 5, guarding us against collapses and doing the Laxman, as it were. Hopefully Yuvi will improve enough to claim the #4 slot after Sachin and we will have Raina hanging around at 6 doing his stuff and Vijay will remain just outside along with Rohit waiting to get in at the first opportunity. Pujara looked rather unconvincing against pace but it is probably the same issue with all young Indian batsmen.. Barring the IPL I am not sure where they can get to face such quick bowling. Seriously need some BIG A team tours, like with 3 or 4 5 day games and so on....

Haha was planning to bump this but got distracted making fun of Michael Clarke in the tour thread.

The kid continues to shine. WAFG!

Also :laugh:ing at those that said Pandey was better than him.

In ODIs for the World Cup I think it's pretty straightforward from the batting front. Bowling, considering the wickets, surely only two front line fast bowlers. You have to play Zaheer, which means Praveen, Nehra and Ishant will fight for the second seamer spot (Sree ain't anywhere close in ODIs surely). Ojha and Harbhajan should both play IMO. Can't rely on Yuvraj to bowl like he did today every game and not be taken apart. Anyone other than Clarke would have mauled him.

Sachin
Sehwag
Gambhir
Yuvraj
Kohli
Raina
Dhoni
Harbhajan
Praveen
Zaheer
Ojha
