Same Numbers of Letters In Surname Teams

For FIVE letters I might go with
  1. GRACE WG
  2. HOBBS Jack
  3. RANJI KS
  4. DRAVID Rahul
  5. KANHAI Rohan
  6. NOBLE Monty
  7. IMRAN Khan
  8. EVANS/KNOTT (K)
  9. WASIM Akram
  10. LAKER Jim
  11. BRIGGS Johnny

If there is objection to Imran (because of the surnames of Muslim's confusion) I might put Kapil in his place. If even that is denied, then Walsh at 11 and mpve everyone from keeper downwards up a spot. :-)
  1. GRACE W G
  2. HOBBS Jack
  3. RANJI (if not allowed then LLOYD batting below Kallis)
  4. CROWE Martin
  5. KALLIS Jaque
  6. NOBLE Monty
  7. IMRAN Khan
  8. KNOTT Alan (k)
  9. WASIM Akram
  10. LAKER Jim
  11. GUPTE Subhash

Hope that one passes muster :-)

I think, with your extra 18,000 posts of experience, I should probably let you have that :)

Although I would be interested to know why Warne isn't included? I'm guessing Gupte must have been seriously good.

Anyway, from me, I present:
A 9-letter side
Herbert SUTCLIFFE
Gordon GREENIDGE
Sachin TENDULKAR
Kevin PIETERSEN
Gundappa VISWANATH
Warwick ARMSTRONG (captain)
Adam GILCHRIST (wicket-keeper)
Charles LLEWELLYN
Derek UNDERWOOD
Ernie McCORMICK
Frederick SPOFFORTH

Get me a spiteful turner, please :)

Its a bit odd to have Hunte and Grace in the side and yet open with Anwar, no ?
I was struggling to find good middle-order batsman and decided to put them in the middle. Not fussed really. I see I missed Crowe and he'd probably get in there for one of those openers.

Imran, Wasim, Waqar are not surnames!
AFAIK those are their surnames. On Howstat they're listed under them.

I'm positive sure Waqar and Wasim are first names. One of the Pakistani Members to confirm.

Here is one with SIX letters. The bowling would give sleepless nights to any batting side and they do bat deep

  1. HUTTON Len
  2. MANKAD Vinoo
  3. HARVEY Neil
  4. HAZARE Vijay
  5. SOBERS Gary
  6. FLOWER Andy (k)
  7. MILLER Keith
  8. HADLEE Richard
  9. LILLEE Dennis
  10. TURNER Charlie (CTB)
  11. BARNES Syd F
Border instead of Hazare/Harvey, perhaps? Hell of a bowling attack though, and plenty of cohices. When Mankad is your 7th bowling option, you're going alright.

You know I have always had a mental block about Border. I think one could call it a bias and not be too wrong about it. Surely he could come in place of Hazare i think who wasn't too hot in elegance/style etc - my principle grouses I guess against Border :-)

I think you have a valid point. Not with Harvey who by all accounts was truly a fabulous batsman in every respect. Hazare was all effectiveness and determination which was so true for Border too.

I must have been very upset when he overtook the hero of my younger days as the world's leading run getter in Tests. I did not think he came close to Gavaskar in sheer class. I guess that must be it :-)

Meh, it's your team; you could have put Scott Muller in there if you really wanted. And Hazare's FC record is hardly anything to scoff at, so there's probably a little bit of bias on my side as well, with Border being the catalyst for our future success and all.

You could try Chatfield in place of Llewellyn there. Harbhajan might be wondering why not him on a spiteful turner :-)

I think I will post the TEN letter one just to assure everyone I CAN count

  1. FREDERICKS
  2. SANGAKARRA (K)
  3. VENGSARKAR
  4. BARRINGTON
  5. AZHARUDDIN
  6. RICHARDSON
  7. JAYASURIYA
  8. TATTERSALL
  9. IRONMONGER
  10. KASPROWICZ
  11. SIDEBOTTOM

I am sure that bowling side can be improved. Sanath is the batting all rounder at number seven

I'd replace Ironmonger or Tattersall with Fanie deVilliers :D

The 10-Letter Side (God, I'm getting desperate)
Roy FREDERICKS
Peter RICHARDSON
Kumar SANGAKARRA (captain)
Ken BARRINGTON
Dilip VENGSARKAR
Mohammad AZHARUDDIN
David RICHARDSON (wicket-keeper)
Fanie DEVILLIERS
Tom RICHARDSON
Manny MARTINDALE
Bert IRONMONGER

Possibly a slightly stronger bowling line-up, although a pretty woeful 8-11, it must be said, climaxed by arguable the worst batsman in Test history.

SJS-1)Who is the Richardson in your team? Victor?
2) Ironmonger at No.9? I imagine he'd be bleeding profusely from the nose!

It's clearly possible to make up a team of 3's, but there wouldn't be many internationals among them. Several Coxes, a few Days and the odd Dye and Box have played first-class cricket.

CB Fry to captain, obv.
