Kumar Sangakkara- rank him

Lostman

State Captain
Where does he rank?

SL don't play enough tests, so he might not make 10K, but his numbers are right up there.
Currently 32yrs old- 88 matches-7549 runs@ 55.
As not keeper- 40 matches-4432 runs @ 74:blink:
As keeper- 48 matches- 3117 runs @ 40

@ home- 49 matches- 4233 runs @ 60
away- 39 matches- 3316@ 50

Ban/Zim do help his numbers, but even excluding them his average is above 50.
And as a non-keeper it is 66.90.

Yeah a lot of players are better when compared to SRT in the last decade. Doesn't mean ****. Imo, the best wicketkeeper-batsman in tests in this era after Gilchrist.

Sangakara is not a wicket keeper batsman in tests. Gilchrist kept wickets till the last test he played. 8-)

Gtfo, Sangakkara was a keeper batsman for quite some time, and an awesome one at that. He has played more tests as a keeper than as a specialist bat.

CBF to deploy statsguru to work out his batting average on Wednesdays against non-minnows but his numbers are obviously outstandingly good.

Maybe the best batsman in the world to watch.

All time great? Dur yeah.

Has he done enough to be put in the same category of Tendulkar, Lara, Ponting, Kallis and Dravid?

Probably didn't get many opportunities to prove against the best teams in the last few years such as Australia and SA.

Are those 5 in the same category? The last 2 are in a rung lower than the others.
tbf, some won't put Ponting in the same category as Lara and Sachin.. some won't put Lara in Sachin's category. But Dravid should be in the category with Sachins and Laras.. He has contributed to more Indian wins than Sachin, especially the overseas victories. Sachin's great to watch but Dravid's great to have in your team.

I rank him as one of the finest cricketers of the modern era. He possibly doesn't get the attention he deserves on this forum and in the wider media, but I have never read a single post or read any article that isn't glowing of his performances.

The only area of his game I don't rate highly is his performances as a ODI cricketer. He is a mighty fine player in the format, but considering his talent I don't think an average of 37 with a strike-rate of 75 is anywhere near close to his potential.

I do think he is a very good player. But wouldn't put him in the top drawer. Would rate guys like Hayden ahead of him.

Sangakarra is my favourite left handed batsman to watch in world cricket today.

The great things about Kumar is that he never seems out of form and he has the ability to bat for long periods - 5 double tons.

Sangakarra would make my world XI if picking a side today.
