Not Terrible
And hey NZ were pretty hard to score off in that period due to a mixture of green pitches and decent if not exceptional bowling.

Lol, if only you watched that series aye? Gillespie was carrying an injury, Lee was probably at his worst at that time point in time and they were carrying the likes of Brad Williams and Nathan Bracken who weren't near Test class. Love the way people under-analysis things.
Err.. I did watch that series. So Lee was at his worst, who cares, that's his fault. Maybe the batsmen had something to do with it.

So since Chanderpaul started playing...

Tendulkar
Lara
Ponting
Dravid
Waugh
Kallis

Jayawardene
Hayden
Inzamam
Sangakkara
MoYo
Flower
Kirsten
Smith
Sehwag
Pietersen
Clarke
Martyn
Anwar
Hussey
Gilchrist

They all probably have cases against Shiv but I'd say only 5-6 are certainly a class above.
Only the bolded ones are clearly better. And he is better than the undelined ones. Others are arguable.

Runs between 2000-2007 in Sri Lanka and Australia were more valuable then at any other stage. With the only exceptions in that period being when Murali wasn't playing and the 2003/04 series against India where neither McGrath or Warne played and Australia's bowling attack was pretty mediocre; so it was more like making runs against New Zealand/West Indies then it was against Australia. South Africa throughout the decade was always a pretty tough place to tour, so there wasn't really necessary reason to exclude stats from there for any particular reason. The retirement of Pollock saw the emergence of Steyn.

Interesting that Tendulkar's average drops down to 31.
Some nice unbiased analysis from you. When Australia toured SA in 2001/02 neither of Pollock and Steyn Played

So the correct average of Aussie players are:

So once again Sehwag>>>Hayden :laugh::laugh::laugh:

Number 2 the average of Kumble and Harbhajan in India is lower than average of Warne in Australia in 2000-09 .So the updated list for Aussie players are

Surprised to see the batsman of decade averages 32. :-O

Thanks and please you can use all permutation and combination but

Sehwag>>>>>Hayden

Similarly when OZ toured India in 2004, Sachin was injured and rain saved you at chennai so neither that series count.

Hayden averages only 31 when he faced both Kumble and Harbhajan in 2004 and 2008

You say Sehwag >>>> Hayden, but yet you've proven nothing with that evidence?

How can Hayden average 31 against Harbhajan and Kumble when he didn't face neither of them in some of those innings? Duhhhhrrr. Hayden only ever faced Kumble & Harbhajan in tandem in 3 innings of his career, scoring 58, 39 and 35. That's an average of 44, which is higher then Sehwag's average outside the subcontient. What exactly is Sehwag's average as an Opening Batsman in South Africa again? Hmmm.

I've never seen someone make themselves look so foolish with their first 2 posts.

Not sure how much clearer I can make it, but any more posts this wildly off topic will be deleted. Also, no need for the personal insults.

Sorry, was at dinner. But all posts off-topic since my warning above have been deleted. While it's fine for threads to diverge, if it's just an argument between two or three posters that's taking the whole thing way off course, it's not okay.

A quality player who perhaps because of his style of play gets forgotten, clearly not as good as Lara but probably played more important innings when it mattered than Lara, they all might not have changed games but it isn't his fault he is in a dreadful team.

It was interesting how he seemed to become a better player when Lara left the side.

Nope. He may played important innings, but not near lara's number. His innings sometimes seem important and lone hand because most of the times he ended up being stranded while exposing tailenders, where as Lara generally goes on attacking by the time 7th or 8th wkt down.

As far as becoming better player after Lara left, He hit a purple patch at the time similar to his 2002 run. To me he is a very good player, but if he does hit one more peak then probably end up being a great.

Not much to add, people have it pretty right imo, very good but not great, it should also be said that he carried the batting of his team for a number of years, and showed that he could score runs when most needed, which is always the sign of a class batsman:)

If he can finish off the next couple years with an awesome patch he'll be up there I reckon.
