We respect them - in the same way we respect English county teams, Aussie shield teams, and other FC outfits around the world. They're a successful team at the second highest level of the game. It's therefore not surprising they beat up on teams from countries where cricket is a highly marginal sport.

Agreed. In the same way that Ireland SHOULD not become a test nation if they can be beaten comprehensively by the reserves of a team that will never be a test nation.
Well said....

That's what I've been trying to say with all my ramblings.

Anyone in Aus who's interested, Calypso Summer is on Fox One now. Great doco on the 60-61 series.

Bloody hell the thread is silly, Essex have just as much right as Jamaica tbh...
Of course the fact that Essex is a county/state/province and Jamaica is a country seems to have passed you by completely.

Get back to me when Essex is a country in its own right with Chelmsford and Colchester battling for capital status .

That's the point....

Bermuda are currently going it alone, so technically speaking, so could Jamaica. After all, if cricket is ever introduced into the Olympics, Jamaica and trinidad would have to go it alone. They wouldn't be allowed to participate as the West Indies.

So, strictly speaking, there's nothing wrong with Jamaica, Trinidad and Barbados getting some practice in against international competition as separate entities....

On the other hand, it's unfortunate that there is so much parochialism in West Indies cricket, that often gives rise to one island or another talking of going it alone.

West Indies should Remain one

Yes Jamaica alone will be a good team but as rightly pointed out they will be still one of the bottom teams. The separation can propel other teams in Windies to also separate like Trinidad or Barbados. Jamaica over time may improve but I am sure will never exceed the present level at which Windies are. While Windies might slightly go down and Jamaica may join them there ( An hypothesis) in the end this will lead to 2 mediocre teams.

Instead of this West Indies should increase the collaboration levels and strengthen the team.

If we see all games they are generally dominated by countries with some level of Population. Population of Windies islands individually ll never allow them to sustain in long term.
