The counties XI finished their 2 day match against UWI/Barbados XI today.

Counties XI: 325 all out (Wainwright 76, Pyrah 65, Brophy 59, Jamal Warrican 4/70)

UWI/Barbados XI: 284/6 (Braithwaite 110)

Congrats to Kraigg Braithwaite, the boy is just a run machine no matter what level he plays at. It was good to see young Warrican get some wickets too.

Cricket season is coming

And Worcester only have 13 full time pros, we are in the messy stuff and will not compete, you would not expect us too as we lost Kabir, Moore, Davies, Jones, Batty in the winter and never replaced Hick this previous summer

I fear for us...i really do :(

Yorkshire are apparently looking at Tino Best as a replacement for Daryl Tuffey
and Lancs have Daren Powell. Is this some plan to improve the West Indies bowlers or do those counties think they haven't any young bowlers better than these two.

Tests bowling
Powell - 47.85
Best - 48.67

Powell has no way back into the WI side. He's over 30 now, I believe....

Once again, cricinfo shows that they only really care about cricket in the Big Three (England, Australia and India)L

"Never before in the history of English first-class cricket has a game been played at night with a pink ball, although the novelty has been tested in limited-overs games, and in a first-class match in the West Indies."

What a load of rubbish!
:@
If these jokers had done even the slightest bit of research, they would've found out that the pink balls at night were not played in ONE first-class match in the Caribbean this season, but in SEVERAL matches in quite a few territories. And it wasn't in just any FC match, it was in the four-day domestic competition, which is the West Indies' premier domestic league.

But, of course, to say that would be to minimise the over-inflated importance of playing this match in Abu Dhabi....
It's not so ground-breaking after all, is it?

Powell is a kolpak, I believe Yorkshire are considering Best as an overseas player.

The MCC side looks distinctly average, Durham should make 600+

Pretty pathetic stuff from cricinfo it has to be said but then that is what I have come to expect from them. It's fine when we are playing one of the big 4, but expect very little coverage and the downplaying of everything else we do.

As for it being some plan to improve West Indies bowlers, if that was so then Best and Powell would certainly not be the ones to go for. They are pretty much out of the reckoning for Windies selection and will have to rely on kolpak contracts to earn their keep.

Not for a time he wasn't. There were spells in 07 and 08 where he didn't look like buying a run. Basically from the home series against India to the home series against SA he did nothing of note, failing to make a century in 4 series, looking in just horrible knick, with no back-lift and not looking remotely like the player that made the double century in Australia. Definitely saved his career with the century against SA. Him coming close to getting dropped had nothing to do with him playing for Durham. Yet, Bell, who made a century in NZ, averaging 50 in the series, and had a good series in SL was under as much pressure as Collingwood for his place during the series against SA. Bloody England-bias against Warwickshire players.

The fact that Bell was being talked in the same breath as Collingwood says it all. Bell average was only similar to Collingwood's because of a load of freebies against Bangladesh. Collingwood in comparison in his early Tests was trying to scrap his team to a draw in Sri Lanka against Murali - which is what he succeeded in doing - but that doesn't do your average much good. Bell's career was brimful of soft runs that barely matter and Collingwood is a better fielder and bowler, better in the dressing room. No contest.

Collingwood's only been a good Test batsman since his comeback in that Third Test against SA in 2008. Before that all he did was cashed-in massively on the rare rank road he played on (Karachi and Nagpur 2005/06, Adelaide 2006/07, Riverside 2007) and did sod-all (unless he had catches dropped, which wasn't unusual) when there was the slightest in it for bowlers of any kind, which was most of the time.

Since that century at Edgbaston in 2008 though he's averaged almost 50 in 20 Tests and scored runs easy and hard. Credible on his part to turn himself into a Test-class batsman at the age of 32. How long it lasts we wait to see.

Skipping past the bollocks a nice start from Durham, century just up for Di Venuto, 148-0 after 39.3

Unless it's an absolute featherbed I can't our bowlers getting much of a workout.

Stokes off to a good start on FC debut. 29* off 42 balls. Durham 374-4.

Will be interesting to see how many games Stokes gets this season.

Stokes out for 51 off 82.

Hope he doesn't turn out to be another Nicky Peng.

Just waiting for the proper bowling to start really.

Daft late collapse from Durham, probably having a slog.

MCC 6-3 after 5. Heh. 2 for Harmison and 1 for Thorp.
