Shakib vs Vettori

The better overall cricketer.

Vettori's batting is far superior, Shakib's bowling may be marginally better. But I would go for Vettori as a better package.

I say Vettori currently though Shakib to end with better figures.

With the bat, yes.

But with the ball? By Shakib's current age, Vettori had taken 125 Test wickets @ 32.28. Don't think there's much in it in that department, considering the pitch conditions Vettori often had to bowl on.

I meant as an overall cricketer. Also Shakib never gets an opportunity to play against his own team.

Don't see Shakib will ever be a world class bat will max out at 35, his bowling has serious potential.

True, but Vettori had only played two Tests against them by this point of his career, so you can't really say they had had a huge impact on his stats then.

It's a shame to see the flat, low-arm defensive ****e Shakib's been sending down during this series, although I suppose he's got no choice on these pitches.

He doesn't have Vettori's nous yet but at his best he's a slightly better bowler IMO. He looked unplayable in the first innings of that first test against India, and made some of the best players of spin in the world look like park batsmen.

There's no doubt that Vettori's the better all-round package though.

It's not often these comparisons actually happen, but there was a match last year where it was actually just these two playing against each other. Vettori won IIRC.

Right now it's Vetorri, especially if one considers captaincy. But who knows in a few years, Shakib's pretty young. Then again, Bangladesh always seem to have some new youngster who looks like he could be Test class but invariably ends up a bit short, so we'll have to see. Certainly have high hopes for him
