Weaknesses and Strengths of greats
Older folks can be big help here.
What are people like Sobers, Chappell, Gavaskar, Richards and so on and so forth were good at and what sort of pitches troubled them... Knowing Sachin Tendulkar, he had many strengths and some weaknesses. balls on pads or outside off on length would get crushed. he had trouble with same balls with unpredictable bounce and bit outside off due to less reach. More trouble with off cutters/inswingers then leg cutters/outswingers. Good at both defense and offense. Top player of spin...any side. Though better with leg spinner then off. Punters strengths on the off were similar. Top player of heighted balls. One of the best pull shot player. Better attacker then defender. Trouble with inswingers. Very good with outswingers. Trouble with off spinners. Don't know how he faired against leg spinners. Take it away...Lara, IVA, Kallis, Hayden, Gilly etc.

Gilchrist- a weakness when subjected to quality swing bowling (but then again who hasn't). And of course a weakness with people (Flintoff) going around the wicket to him in the latter days.
Tendulkar- Seemed to suffer with incutters at one point Lara- Fiddling outside off to Mcgrath Hayden- The ball moving in towards the pads Pietersen- Spin. A skill he has contempt for yet succumbs to alarmingly. Vaughan- Full and straight deliveries. Alarmingly when out of touch. Ponting- Freezes up against finger-spin when out of touch. Chris Martin's batting.

Stengths
Tendulkar- Ability to adapt Warne- Intelligence and the honestly held belief that he was born to make the difference McGrath- the fact that no-one could ultimately define what it was he had. Kallis- Pretty much everything but the will to really hurt the opposition. |
