Fallen out with Graeme Smith. Corrie van Zyl appointed caretaker coach for the Indian tour.

"Mickey Arthur had resigned as South Africa coach following a breakdown in his relationship with captain Graeme Smith, according to reports in the media. The reports say former South African fast bowler Corrie van Zyl has been appointed caretaker coach and will be in charge of the team for the two-Test and three-ODI tour of India next month.

A report in the Witness said the relationship between Arthur and Smith had "deteriorated irreparably", and reached a flashpoint during the recent home series against England. It said Vincent Barnes, South Africa's bowling coach, was also sacked.

Van Zyl has been South Africa's assistant coach in the past and was appointed coach of Cricket South Africa's (CSA) high-performance centre in Pretoria in 2009."

I'm certain Mickey Arthur has expressed serious interest in the England role after finishing with South Africa. A couple of times, at least.

Andy Flower seems to be doing a really good job at the moment though. They're not ditching him for an uglier model.

If word is true, Mickey Arthur was not the coach but just the guy who took the cones out. During the Arthur and Arendse affair, it was said that it didn’t matter if Arthur was sacked as Smith runs the show anyhow. Rather ironic if that is true considering Smith was meant to be the antithesis of Cronje yet Smith has had equal if not greater control than Cronje. Smith still picks the side and up until the Arendse episode, he had two votes in the selection process as the vice-captain Ashwell Prince had an input in team selection.

Kepler Wessels is the highly touted next coach but that would either mean Smith falling on his sword, as he and Kepler don’t get on or Smith allowing Kepler to coach the side.

This will be a blow for SA. Arthur did a lot of homework for last series in India and the subcontinent and was one of the main reasons why SA returned without lsoing the series.

Seen off three coaches, three national selectors, a probable fourth as SuperSport is reporting Procter will be sacked, players such as Zulu and a few CSA CEOs as well. Only people who have survived have been Kallis, Boucher and Majola, two of Smith's neighbours and Majola is the man who appointed Smith. Not a bad haul for a 28 year old!

Arthur is after a job in County Cricket with Middlesex rumoured to be interested.

Heard Surrey as well.

New Zealand apparently also sniffed around Arthur recently but he was reluctant given their playing resources and the money available in county cricket.
